Sound Cards VS Onboard Audio
What difference, does it make? I’m interested.

for your typical headset or stereo output it makes little to no difference nowadays. if you want good "surround" sound then it probably pays to use a sound card.

I plan on using a DT 990 PRO for Music Production and Gaming. Which sound card would you suggest?

well i haven't looked into sound cards for 15 years since onboard audio has improved significantly compared to back then.

most modern sound cards should come with digital, optical and 7.1 channel outputs i would imagine

as for the inputs . idk.

My mother board Intel uses Realtek HD audio digital is very good.
Using an audio / sound card can offer more in some areas such as including recording features, you can Audacity free for that. But these days it must be pretty competitive as the Realtek gives excellent sound when using the right Speakers, be it 2. 4 or 5. with the best media player head phones.. After all the quality sound is only as good as the quality of the video /DVD / mp3 your playing.
Creative sound blaster was very good sound card.
GPU Nvidia also include sound drivers to optimize your sound experience with games. Realtek now provides the Audio manager for 7.1 or quadraphonic stereo etc.

“Dedicated” is always better... If you really care about audio quality, than a dedicated sound card is the way to go.

What setup are you looking at? Stereo or 5.1? I’ve got Sound Blaster G6 and AE-5 and with stereo output, I recommend the G6. Both sound cards power my DT 1990 Pro headphones perfect. You can’t go wrong with either sound card, amazing sound quality.... much better than onboard audio.

The type of setup, I wanna do is mainly for Music Producing with Ableton/Fl Studio. I will probably get a DT 990 Pro. Which Sound Card or Audio Interface, would you suggest for my setup?

Both do stereo, but G6 only does fake surround, AE-5 does dedicated 5.1 surround. So if you have a 5.1 setup, AE-5 is better. If you have a stereo setup, G6 is better.

Is the G6 only for gaming? I notice it’s a gaming sound card.

No lol. All sound cards can play all audio. It just that the Sound Blaster sound cards have “gaming” attached to them because they have extra features and game profiles for games you can use to enhance gaming. The G6 and AE-5 play music, movies etc perfect. Listening to music with the G6 is awesome.

5.1 headphones are just marketing male cow excrement. "Fake" aka Virtual Surround usually sounds better and even provides better spatial location of sounds.

realtek does good enough for 5.1-7.1 surround decoding for games/movies

for headphones any sound card is good enough
(5.1 headphones use their own sound card or convert stereo to its 2 speakers using delays or whatever decoding method it has)
for voip realtek split front/rear or usb is fine

if you want a card that decodes stereo to 5.1-7.1 for music or external input, to a 5.1 receiver/amp
not many do that better than creative, but you need modded drivers for win-7-10 for them to work properly
