Is two 1080s in SLI worth it?

I was thinking if I can grab another 1080 for cheap I would hook it up in series with my current one. Idk anything about the expected results though and compatibility with games. My processor is i5 6600k if that reveals a separate bottleneck that would render two cards not worth it.

SLI in general isn't really a good idea these days, hardly no support for it anymore, just go with one 1080, or just upgrade GPUs if you want better performance.

For the performance gain vs dollar amount no, its not worth the expense for a maybe 20% gain. I have ran an sli setup for past 10yrs and have just recently switched to a single gpu. With the current gpu's available and the cost involved an sli setup is really just an enthusiasts playground now.

Absolutely not. You will see very little performance gain over a single powerful card such as a RTX 2080Ti which is the succesor to the 1080Ti.

SLI is dead, plain and simple. Less then 1% of new releases support it nowadays and the performance gain ( about 20%) is not worth the investment.
The market has swung back to powerful one card solutions a while ago.

For one thing, sli is just not for beginners and it can require alot of tweaking for certain games to benefit from it properly. Plus any i5 is fairly weak to use in conjuction with an sli config. Best bet is sell that 1080 and buy a better single gpu that performs better, like gtx 1080 ti, or rtx 2080 or 2080 ti
