Index usb-c to DisplayPort adaptor?
Would this work? Why the trident if a single cord is possible?

its called an external gpu

but usb-c is nowhere near the bandwidth of a pci-e x16 slot

they work fine for mining, but for gaming it will not be good enough

Thanks I was debating getting that accessory now I know it’s not for me

Actually after a bit more research I still have the question. USB c appears to be compatible with DisplayPort and is very fast at 10GB/s. It’s not a GPU. It plugs into some GPUs including the RTX 20s.

that may be mini dp or tb

tb can support video signal, but not natively, on mobo it will use the intel hd not the dedicated gpu

Hi guys, I have a question, I have a RTX 2070, so they recommand to have this adaptor. But Does a display port to mini display port adaptor is enough ? Cause When I use the application to know if my computer is ready for Valve Index, It Told me that my 2070 can't support it.
Should I use the USB-C adaptor ?

The USB-C connector is being sold in the Steam Store as an accessory for the index to use with a laptop when you’re on the go replacing the trident or if you have an RTX 20 as an alternative to the trident.
My question is can I use that with my DisplayPort. It looks like I should be able to but if so I’m not sure why that’s not suggested instead of the trident DisplayPort/USB/power. The DisplayPort is a power source as well and compatible with USB-C.

Sky cobra, the RTX 20 series comes with a USB-C port. You don’t need to convert anything if you get that accessory and you’ll only need to deal with the single cord as a tether

Sky cobra I’m not sure why your 2070 wouldn’t support the index though

Sky cobra maybe the graphics card isn’t the issue?

The application they give "Are you Ready for Valve Index" said that My computer isn't good. The only red cross is for my graphic card.
I have an Asus Rog strix scar II, so a laptop computer with a 2070.
I just want to know if I can get a Valve Index. I have a mini display port, so i think I should get a adaptor for DP to miniDP. Cause USB Adaptor will be out 31 july.
Am I right ?
By the way, I really don't understand why their application said Rtx 2070 isn't fine. I try to ask to support about it

I hope you get an answer maybe it’s an error in their software

currently using an Asus Scar III, with a USB-C that can support DP 1.4

Will there any issues when I use a third party DP to USB-C adapter? Anyone have any opinions or experience on this matter?

My heart is definitely set on the Index when it comes to the Asian market.

Any update on this? I am interested in getting the Scar III but still cannot conclusively find if it is compatible with the Index.

10gigabits not 10 gigabytes. GB = 10^6 * 8 = 80000000bits or 80Gbps But technically gibibits is the correct term. USB-C to display port is a non-feasible option.

DP-1.4 standard has a maximum bandwidth of 32.6Gbps
USB-C at the top end caps out at

5Gbps for USB 3.0
10Gbps for USB 3.1
10Gbps to 40Gbps for USB 4.0 (Unreleased or at least seldom found)

In order to use USB-C to DP you MUST have Thunderbolt

To update, it was just a problem with my config that detected my processor as graphic card and not my real one.. Now it's resolved and it works really well :)

This isn't correct. While your data stats might be right, your conclusion isn't. My laptop (ROG Scar III) works great with the Valve Index using a USB-C to DP cable.

@CynderR, yikes, I'm sorry, I just saw this notification. The cable I have is called
"Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort Adapter with 8K HDR DisplayPort 1.4 - USB Type C and Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible with Oculus Rift S, MacBook Pro, Dell XPS, Surface Pro and More" (I don't know if links are allowed... But that name should give you the correct cable if you search it)
