Help with ATI Radeon HD 4770 Temperature
Hello, i just got old pc from my sister, this pc is 7-8 year old i guess. I just checked with speedfan and HWmonitor that gpu temperature at 65 C when idle and 82 C at gaming. I'm curious so i clean all the dust (there's so much dust) and change the paste, it turns out better, with 58 C when idle but when gaming stay at max 82 (rarely) and average at 72 C. here's the spec with speedfan:

Found WDC WD5000AADS-00L4B1 (500.1GB)
Found ATI Radeon HD 4770
Found Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz

And what i test with gaming is shadowverse, and skyrim legendary medium graphic with grass and shadow off

my question are:
1. is that normal GPU temperature? my room temperature is 32 C
2. is it fine to tune fan gpu? default at 30% when i tune to 50% (the max % of no noise fan) the gaming temperature down to from 72 C to 70 C.

It actually is safe to increase to 100%. I'd say make a custom fan curve in MSI AB to achieve the best noise/temps ratio for every kind of GPU load.

Nah, I did mean case fans, not the graphics card fans. Those are really cheap and always nice to have around. Two intake and one exhaust 120mm fans can easily drop 10-15 degrees on your GPU without any extra noise compared to no case fans at all.

Depends on the gpu load ofcourse.

Yep, that girl is hot. Buying some 120mm fans to get a strong airflow inside the case is your best bet here.

Room temp 32c..damn that's stupidly hot..are you sitting in the buff

thank for the reply, i just learn about the gpu load and test it.

game: : shadowverse
gpu load: : 31
gpu temperature with 30% fan speed (default) : 68 C
gpu temperature with 60 % fan (a bit noise) : 58 C

game: : Skyrim LE
gpu load : 83
gpu temperature with 30% fan speed (default) : 76 C
gpu temperature with 60 % fan (a bit noise) : 63 C

how about it? is it safe to increase to 60% fan speed?

glad to hear i can safely tune my fan and thanks a lot, i use MSI Afterburner, it really helps!!. i'm pretty noobs about hardware stuff, i will keep your suggestion in mind.

i'm scared of graphic card overheat, learned from my older laptop. It's my fault using no gaming laptop for gaming and using it like pc.

Well, there are two sides of the story here. On one hand, I've seen hot GPUs working for 10 years without a single problem, as basically modern hardware just reduces the voltage/clocks to cool down if it's running too hot, it also turns itself off if it's about to reach critical temps. On the other hand, they say one should not expect modern hardware to run fine more than 5 years, and that's basically how I change my graphics cards - when they eventually fail after 5+ years of usage. Keeping hardware away from high temps can indeed prolong its lifespan, and considering yours is from 2009 - it definitely makes sense to be careful. ATI is dead, long live AMD.
