Intel I7 7700 to Intel I7 9700
Dear community,

I've recently upgraded my cpu from an I7 7700 to an I7 9700. I know small change. But a friend could use a better cpu so I upgraded mine. Anyhow, Once I installed the cpu and booted the pc, it worked fine, detected cpu nothing wrong. Untill I launched an application. Everytime I launch an application it takes very long to open the application and my desktop starts lagging like crazy. First I assumed throttling but I checked the temps and they are fine, sitting at around 45¨C.

What I have tried:
* Unscrewing cooler and reinstalling it.
* Clean windows install and wiping hard drives.
*Googling for this issue but came up emptyhanded.
*Checked drivers to see if the old once were still there, they are not.

I'm out of ideas, but it is an expensive cpu and I really don't wanne have to pass it aside.

System specs: Intel I7 9700, RTX 2080, 2x8 DDR4 RAM, Windows 10 Pro.

If there is anyway you guys can help, i'm open for ideas. Sorry if my english isn't what you'd excpected, but it isn't my native language.

Thanks

Motherboard? PSU?
if you have a 7700 right now, your motherboard will not support 9th gen.

Mobo: Asro B365M Pro4 B365
PSU: Corsair Builder CX600

Sorry that it took so long, had to find the invoices.

I also purchased a new motherboard to fit along with the new cpu.
Used pcpartpicker to match em. I'm not good at that socket and chipset stuff. But pcpartpicker said no errors.

You need a Z370/Z390 to use 9th gen intels.

But the pc fired up. I'm currently replying with it.

I just checked the site for that board... It does actually support 9th gen. But the clocks will possibly suffer.

So, the cpu fits into the socket, but to be able to work perfectly, I need a new mobo? Why didn't pc part pickers say that? Well, that might make sense tho. Guess its back to the Intel I7 7700 untill the new mobo arrives.

No, it works.

Your board supports 8th and 9th gen CPUs. But you should still get a Z390 if you got the 9700K, just so you can overclock.

So what might be causing the lagging then?

Is the overclocking part the only reason why I should switch mobo? Cuz I don't need my cpu overclocked atm.

Z390 will have better power delivery as well, potentially resulting in better boost clocks, if the B365 is a hindrance with its power delivery spec, but that remains to be seen.

It's better to have the ability to overclock down the line, because Intel is not adding their next gen until 2021 at the earliest as far as I can see.

So, what I need to know now. Is my mobo the reason my desktop icons are laggy and launching apps takes ages? Or is it a different problem?
