GTX 1080 + i7 9700k good for 1440p?
I currently have on my rig an Asus rog strix gtx 1080 and an i7 9700k 3.6 Ghz, with a Lenovo L24Q-10 1440p monitor. I was wondering if a setup like this would be good for 1440p, max settings 60fps gaming for a while.
Thanks

yea, that hardware is sufficient for current games with max settings @1440p 60fps but for how long that will hold true is anyone's guess.

at least 2-3 years would be my guess before you would need to start lowering settings

Will dropping res to 1080p solve the issue instead of settings adjustments?

What issue? You didn't mention an issue in your original post. You just asked opinions about GTX 1080 1440p performance.

I mean the issue of lackluster preformance in a few years time

honestly lower settings while maintaining the native resolution would look better than dropping the resolution and give about the same performance

1080p on a 1440p monitor looks gross.. all washed out and blurry.

So you'd say that 2k with adjusted settings is better than 1080p on max?

most definitely

1080p and 2K are the same thing. But yes, 1440p native with reduced settings looks better than non-native 1080p with higher settings.

You'll also be able to experiment and decide what you prefer. There's a fairly finite number of options.

You shouldn’t have a problem. Maybe a bit hot but nothing to worry about.
i have a 10 series card as well, and only a 7700k most games i play in 4k and I get atleast 30 fps and up to 60 depending on what game i am playing...you should be fine on 1440p. Have u checked out NVidia's last driver update that added some features to Nvidia control panel that i actually use and it works pretty good...low latency mode, image sharpening, and the Gync compatible option in monitor technology if ur monitor can support Gsync or on a non Gsync monitor...like AMD's freesync monitors which I now have a recently added unoffical one but it works.

I seen some good improvement when i do play some games like Wildlands and Breakpoint in 1440p sometimes just to run in at a solid 60fps. Imo it doesnt look as washed out when you use the low latency mode, and image sharpening...but everyone tastes are different, I use all the settings that improve the visuals of the game without manipulating it to trick your eyes into thinking it looks like something it isnt. I don't use bloom on high, AA, chromatic aberration, vignetting, and a few others. In 4k using AA isnt as necessary.

I only have 10 case fans no water cooling and my temps under load never get past 80c and usually never get that high, and there is one fan broke on my gpu...im usually sitting at 70c...i think its only really SCUM that runs my gpu hot...but apprently this is not uncommon.

"Only" 10 case fans

that's a little excessive.. you shouldn't need more than 2-3 intake and 2 exhaust at most.. its probably running 70-80c due to turbulent airflow
