Samsung 970 evo plus not really working
So i bought me a M.2 to extend my storage but it isn't really being detected by my MSI B450.
Though the M.2 is shown in the summary page in the bios and it also says, that exactly this M.2 is inserted in the one and only M.2 slot, it only shows me the Sata 1 to 6 settings in advanced options. Bios has been updated, driver for the M.2 has been istalled, it is also running in AHCI mode. It is so weird that the M.2 slot is nowhere to be found in the options. It should be right below Sata #6.

Samsung Magician also says that there is a Samsung 970 evo plus sitting in my Motherboard but it writes that he can't find any storage. Same goes for Windows.
Checked google for about 2 hours and tried a lot of solutions but nothing worked so far.

Pls help.

Edit: Under Storage Management it says that it has not been assigned

The 970 is an nvme ssd.
Does your board support nvme types? If so you must enable that in the bios. As there will be a toggle mode for m2 slot to switch between sata mode vs nvme. Also unhook all sata drives while doing this as a test to see which sata ports will get disabled after enabling nvme

yes, my board does support it.

"MSI B450 GAMING PLUS Overview
For storage, there are six SATA III ports and a single M.2 slot that can operate at up to 32 Gb/s when used with a compatible NVMe drive."

Alright, i checked in the bios again, but there is really not such an option. Only thing relatbale is: SATA MODE. And there i can only toggle between AHCI and RAID.

Ahci and raid are for sata drives.
Nothing to do with M2

M2 should have its own page in there or at least m2 options, such as sata vs nvme for the m2 toggle. As motherboards usually default to sata mode for the m2 slot until you manually change it to nvme mode.

Again, shutdown and ONLY connect the m2 drive, then boot into the bios and see if this drive is properly shown and what mode it is set to.

I'm going to review the manual for that board, I'll get back to u.

So did you format it? Or you can't even format it?

@Brockenstein. Oh... good hint. i can. I also went farther and allocated it, where hence Magigian finally detected it. I ran the benchmark. Well, it's works just fine.

Thanks both of you <3

Magician is pretty useless too.
As you don't need to enable Rapid Mode for an NVME drive. And as far as a benchmark, CrystalDiskMark and CrystalDiskInfo are much better tools.

Since its nvme you'll want to install the nvme driver from Samsung for best results.
