No wait! It was the 9590 that was "extra spicy". No wonder 3rd gen Ryzen was such a big deal for AMD.
I've used the same cooler with the 2700X before, it was almost as bad as this. Hence why I don't own it anymore and don't buy AIOs from CM anymore. They're louder and not any better than the competition.
Dark Rock Pro 4.
3700X should be fine with the Wraith Prism because it only uses 90W under full load (65W TDP =/= Power usage, AMD bases their TDP off of heat and not pure power draw) and the Wraith Prism is more or less designed to take care of ~105W of heat.
Zen2 has been a bit toastier with R7 and R9 because of 7nm lithography resulting in more focused heat in the package, as there are more transistors in an even smaller area on the die.
None of AMD's stock coolers are really enough for Ryzen 9, as evident that the 3900X uses well over 105W at full load, and from personal experience, it can reach the low 70s while gaming, depending on the CPU load.
When Intel drops to 10nm, expect similar issues with heat with the i7s and i9s, as the smaller the lithography, the more focused the heat is.
Nuff said
I’ve heart some people reporting CM ML240 has some mounting pressure problem with AM4, resulting in high temps.
Normally a 240 mm AIO should keep 3700X with PBO on below 80C even during very heavy work load (except power bugs such as Prime95).
If OP have to get a new cooler, I recommend Noctua NH–D15S. It has excellent motherboard and RAM compatibility, performs slightly better than DRP4, roughly on par with 240 mm AIO.
The pump is working, Thermal paste got twice changed.
This AiO sounds more like a Starting Airplane which is in Idle loud and while playing louder.
Does this even fit in my Case?
I've seen a Video between DRP4 and this NH–D15S and the DRP4 was more quiet on Heavy Load. But still it sounds like a good choice.
Atm I'm not Overclocking, its still on Stock settings and it is going over 80°c
And TheStock-Cooler is also very Loud while playing.
