Removing motherboard from case - got a couple quick question
I am taking out the motherboard to install a new CPU cooler, do I need to take out the GPU? On the guides I have seen they take it out but do they just do it so they have more room to work with?

Also when it comes to putting the motherboard back in, is it as simple as screwing it back in and re plugging all the cables and then I am good to go?

Okay thank you guys,
Why is it that the gpu needs to come out?
Also everything else can stay in right?

For starters, there's probably screws behind the GPU you need to remove to remove the motherboard from the case, secondly, the PCI-E slot isn't that strong, you'd risk damaging it leaving the GPU in.

As long as you also remove all the cables, not just power, front panel audio, USB, power switch, fans, etc. everything else should be fine.

Thank you for all the info:)

You might have a case with a window in the MB tray that lets you mount and dismount coolers without having to take out the entire motherboard. Worth to check.

any half decent case will have an access hole on the mobo under the cpu area
open the side of the case tward the mobo to check

if the case does not have the access hole you will need to remove all the cards
you can keep the cpu/ram installed in the board

My case did have a hole at the back for this purpose but it was too small and fidgety, some idiot designed it and I wouldn't have been able to tighten properly

If the opening on the tray is not fully open large enough to install the backplate then it doesn't really count towards what we're referring to

Even if the back plate is small enough, have you ever tried to hold one of those black ones in the image above in place, while trying to apply even pressure to the cooler and tighten the screws?

You need a couple of people or like 5 arms.

Most mount onto the board first before setting the cooler into place anyways. Once you have the backplate secured it shouldn't be a problem to install the cooler.
