Steam download won't go above 2.0 megabytes/s
My internet speeds are far beyond 2 megabytes/s yet steam won't download anything above those speeds. https://www.speedtest.net/result/d/1b0471e9-e49e-4a5b-888b-c01927b8e972
In my steam settings the bandwidth is set to no limit and I have tried changing the download location and the download speed is still not going over 2. I have also reset my router to see if there was anything going on with it and still nothing. I don't know what else to do. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Pardon me for off-topic a bit, but does anyone find it odd that OP has a 1Gbps download speed yet somehow stuck with a ~30Mbps upload? What kinda ISP is this?

I would recommend you call your ISP to check the lines coming into the house. I had a similar situation back in March where the upstream line going into the cable box junction was exposed to the metal part of the wire. Not to mention the cable lines coming out of the box that were not attached to my house, were cut rather than replaced with terminator plugs.

Have your ISP inspect the line and just go from there.

Also, keep in ind Valve may have turned on throttling by default for Steam. Check your download setings in Steam to make sure that is not the case before you call your ISP.

But if the cables had something wrong with them then I wouldn't be getting the high speeds on speedtest.net. I have already changed all of the steam download settings and they didn't do anything.

Have you checked the QoS setting on the router? that would be my immediate go to
I would also test your speeds when downloading files as well

Yea, that was the first thing I checked in the router settings. What's weird is that the download speed is only limited on Steam and Origin. Everything else is fine, like Epic Games.

Its possible Spectrum is throttling you on those platforms, it does appear that its a common practice with them.

People in your area may also be a cause of it.

If it is indeed Spectrum doing it, theres really nothing you can do outside of complaining to them.

With that said, i would test later at night when your local node should be less congested and go from there.

Man, I had a similar thing for years, whenever the wind blew, my internet would go out, lmao.
Pretty fun times. Constantly telling them exactly what it was, but nope, they didn't fix it until one of the engineers was like 'well I'll just try it then', boom, worked better than they said it would.

I've tried at different times and nothing changed so I will just give spectrum a call when I have time and see what they know.

If a game platform is sucking up bandwidth in an area and someone complains about it they can then throttle speeds for said platforms/websites

This is likely whats happening, if so its unlikely they will be able or be willing to help you.

Well they better, I ain't gonna keep paying this much if they can't give me the speed I pay for in the one thing that I bought this high of a speed for.

Your downstream is 906 megabits per second. Your upstream is 30 megabits per second. If it were a game platform causing the issue, Your downstream would be affected. A bad line leading to your house can cause a signal egress.

If the issue isn’t an old router, then it’s the ISP needing to check and inspect the lines, and clean them.

But I just had new internet installed when I upgraded to gigabit internet and the wires were replaced, and this isn't a new issue its been happening for about a year now. And if it were the cables why would they only affect Steam and Origin.

Just checked them all, they're all plugged in securely and still nothing. I don't think it's any wires because I get the right download speed on everything but Steam and Origin.

Just called Spectrum, they said they don't have anything limited on our network. They suggested contacting Steam but because Steam is so hard to get in touch with I can't do anything. They don't have a phone number for customer support and I can't even find a way to make a custom support ticket besides on the community forum.

Bro I've been losing my mind wondering why Steam is so slow.. I plug out my Ethernet cable and plug it back in and it works great again. You're the GOAT.
