Best CPU for Music Production?

Right now I assume it's the 9900k.

AMD is releasing a 12 core processor in July, but there aren't benchmarks available yet.

Difficult to answer. I think you should look up reliable benchmarks specifically of the software you are using. Some programs simply run objectively better on intel, especially when the integrated graphics processor is being used.

I don't do music production so maybe someone with more knowledge and expertise in the field can chime in here

But in general, single core is going to be important across all applications. Multi-core is going to vary based on how well the program utilizes the additional cores.

Intel has been the best at single core for a long time, but AMD is claiming they've finally matched them. Have to wait for benchmarks to come out to truly compare.
