Which should I pick for a low end system, the Athlon 200GE or A10 7850K?
The A10 and its board is half the price of the Athlon combo (CPU+MOBO+RAM). I have spare DDR3 RAM.

The A10 is 10 year old tech. Don't bother with this stuff, it will struggle to even run Windows smoothly.

The 200GE can not be combined with DDR3, this chip requires DDR4 RAM and a modern AM4 motherboard.
do you insist on new parts and what is your budget or what do you want to do with it?

That's the reason why I ask the question, the A10 is a lot cheaper and I have some spare DDR3 RAMs for it. The 200GE is good and all (I have one for my main system), but it requires DDR4 RAM which is a lot more expensive. Also my brother only plays stuff like BF3 which runs well even on an old Athlon II with HD 5550. So the performance doesn't bother me or him that much.

I don't really care for new parts since I'm on a tight budget. Very tight. 2011 era AAA gaming like BF3 is all that's necessary, even at its lowest since it still looks amazing.
second hand i5-2400 system "or better" paired with gtx 750 ti "or better" = around 150$

Sorry, mate. At that price I'd go with the Athlon 200GE, since the driver for Nvidia cards aren't quite as good as AMD from my experience and the Athlon has an integrated GPU and it's pretty damn good so far, it also consumes very little power.
how much does a basic athlon 200 ge system cost? 200$?
well sure but keep in mind that integrated vega 3 pales compared to a gtx 750 ti... you could also go for an even cheaper i3 but thats your choice anyways... just do not go for a10 whatever if it is not below 50$...

The basic Athlon system costs about 150 in my country but the A10 with board cost 60-70$. And
60-70$ without case, psu, ram and probably with pretty bad board/cooler... stuff like that adds up -> FULL i3 systems that also have integrated gpu on board cost around 50$ and from gen 3 upwards stomp any a10 apu...
Anything AMD that is not AM4 socket is just waste of money.

Tbh neither.

I played it on a x4 965 quad awful switched to fx8350 night and day better.

Athlons are cheap for a reason, upside of 200ge you can swap a better cpu in if you have the extra money.

BF 3,4,5 like the extra cores.

As you can see, the regular people here are not the type to ask low-end questions. Some of them even think a 2060 is already low-end. If I had to put something low-end together, I'd try Tom's Hardware forum, they might enjoy the challenge.

And yes regulars, I'm trying to get in your head and challenge you to think outside the box for once!

Maybe we just dont like to recommend something that we know would only be misery to use removing most of the fun you should get from gaming experience.

I rather give the correct answer instead of the one you want to hear.

I am not going to tell someone to buy 10 year old tech. This stuff is getting old and will likely not last much longer. The gaming experience will also be pretty horrible on this old hardware. And spending 2x for something new and modern is totally worth it in this scenario.

Old tech is OK. My i7-2600 is 9 years old and runs everything at 1080p, except for Fallout 4 modded with Sim Settlements/Conqueror, which even new pc's struggle with (due to the game engine). Benchmarks are the only thing that count.

Refurbished complete i7-2xxx and i7-3xxx pc's are cheap on ebay including windows. But a gpu is required. About twice the performance of an A10 7850K.

There were some guys here about a week ago on about how great 10 year-old xeons are. The 2nd and 3rd gen i7's run rings around them. I use mine with a 1080ti.

As I have an r7 260 and a 750ti, I know that the nvidia cards have much better drivers than what amd catalyst offers.

Regarding the 2 amd cpus listed, their benchmarks are equal, slightly slower than i5-2400.

i5-2500k's were the gaming cpu of 2010. They cost 2 cups of coffee now.
