I want to snap my laptop in half, literally.
My hinges that connect my laptop's screen to the base both broke, but it not completely off. The screen still works it just doesn't stay still anymore. I have to keep it against something to prevent it from closing on itself or bending the other way too much. So since I have my laptop connected to my TV via HDMI I figured I would just take the entire screen part off. But I'm not sure if it will work afterwards.

Get a wireless keyboard, and mouse or keyboard with a track pad, then you can just set laptop somewhere away from you.

You could remove display, but it's best not to damage the cable as you may them to be connected for future things, ensure you have display set to mirror by default for HDMI output.

or you could just tell your laptop in settings to not turn off when the lid is closed.

Replace the hindges. You can look for them on places like ebay for your laptop model.

In my experience in laptop service and repair, it's rarely the actual hinges that broke, but rather the plastic that holds the screws from the hinges.

@OP: google your make and model + replace display, you'll probably find a youtube video that tells you how to open the top part. Disconnect all the connections and see if your laptop still works. If it does, snap away. Or just unscrew it from the hinges since you've got it open anyway.

Here's a tip for the leftovers: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/old-laptop-screen-magic-mirror/

For the most part, you should be OK, but you have to be careful because some laptops have features or even important stuff in the screen part.

I wanted to do that on my old Lenovo E530 ThinkPad Edge, but I found out that the Wi-Fi antenna is in the screen part, so I'd lose wireless internet (I could easily just get an adapter for like 10€ but I decided against taking the screen off). I also found out that for some crazy reason, on that laptop in particular, removing the screen breaks the external screen connection, although it seemed like BS, I didn't want to take the chance.

I don't know what make or model of PC you have but check what is in the screen part of the computer before removing the screen.
