is there a way to set gpu temp limit?
my zotac amp gtx 980ti seems to hit a temp of 55-60 and my system black sceens/no signal, ive tried fresh thermal compound, the cards in bits atm,i gona buy some thermal pads and replace all,ive tried differnt fan speeds but still overheats quickly, example ive set fan speed at 100% and temp still climbs..any ideas..thanks...psu is corsair rm850x/pc spec on profile

55-60 C is completely normal for graphics card, something else must be wrong there. Could be monitor or monitor cable.

60 degrees is ice cold for a gpu. If it black screens, then there is something else wrong with your gpu or pc.

the pc is all nearly new apart from the gpu..ebay jobbie was bit of a mess when i got it/messy thermal compound duno if its been oc,yea it should be able to hit a temp of around 95' the only other thing ive noticed is it sometimes says please connect both gpu power supply connection or sumthing simular, nothing looks fried

It seems stange that it would have issues at only 60°C(as that is absolutely nowhere near overheating), sounds like something is definitely wrong with the card. However, I don't know if your warranty is still valid, especially after opening the card, so an RMA might be out of the question.

ive only got 1 wired up its got twin 8pin il try both cables again, thats one idea thanks

My GPU reaches 95 degrees before it starts throttling. But even then screen doesn't go black.
There's probably something wrong with your GPU.

But if you still want to limit temperature, you can use overclocking software like OC Guru or something else.

Set your desired temperature and check Prioritize GPU Temp.
Your GPU will have lower performance when it reaches target temperature so it doesn't go above that temperature.

But you should check what's the real reason for screen going black because limiting temperature is not the solution.

There you go, you always need all sockets filled on graphics card.

i wanted to raise the limit, from 60ish to 95,ive got firestorm to try control temps etc but doesnt help but like the fan control,i dont oc

no you misunderstood,,my psu can run upto 4x8pin(2x8pin/2cables)...my gpu has both 8pin connected but only via 1 wire to psu, il give that oc guru a try i like the target temp option. be a couple days before i get the thermal pads and rebuild

As jayz2cents showed in one of his older videos, 2 separate 8 pin caes makes a difference over one split, there is a reason why psu's capable of 4 or more 8 pins cost alot more.

My 980 sits around 80c when I'm playing games, sounds perfectly fine to me.

ive rebuilt it without thermal pads except one under a heatsink, seems to be okay, was possibly too much thermal compound on gpu?

The thermal pads were their for the VRMs and Memory modules you shouldn't have removed them

No such thing as too much paste, unless its conductive.
