Astro C40 Support
I was hoping someone can help me set up my Astro C40 controller. But before I start I wanna make two things clear, 1. I have been asking for help everywhere including Reddit and even steam support and got nothing. 2. I am a near expert at direct input xinput steam input related matters so please for the love of sanity don't say "did you check the PS4 controller option". I have been pulling my hair trying to get the touchpad and gyro to work because right now it only shows up as an Xbox controller even after removing drivers. So please if anyone who has an Astro C40 can help me get mine working I would really really appreciate it. If you don't have one I'm really really sorry but please don't respond because you might not be much help anyway, it seems people who don't have one don't really understand my issue. Anyway please anyone with an Astro C40 help me with this. Lastly I know it must be possible because it is listed on their support controller database here https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5199-TOKV-4426.

What drivers and how did you remove them?
The Astro drivers in the device manager. Also windows now has an update with the fall creators update that automatically add xinput to the controller.
Go into big picture, settings, Controller settings, click on the detected controller, click on Redefine Layout, save the configuration how it is, select Play Station 4 Dual Shock controller and then cancel. It will show your controller as an Unregistered playstation 4 controller. Spent all day looking for a way to change it as well and i found this out of pure luck.

Might work for you, I hope this helps.
actually found out how to fix it. What you did only changes the buttons of it, it won't add support for the touchpad and gyro because technically it is still acting like an xbox controller. What I had to do was install the drivers from the astro website, then make sure the drivers from windows were installed as well, after that uninstall both drivers. So basically in the device manager uninstall the first driver which is always the windows one. Then once I restart the computer, go back in there and uninstall the second driver, which is from the astro website. They're both called the same, it's like astro usb or something, then once you restart, it will be using the default drivers, it's important to stop windows updates after this otherwise windows will just update the controller again. There is an option in windows to stop updates for 7 days. Now that it is using the native drivers without the astro website or windows ones which turn it into an xbox controller, you can use it on steam natively where the buttons show up as playstation 4 buttons and you can use the touchpad and gyro on it. If you don't this and just redefine the layout, all it does is changes the buttons, but it won't be able to use the touchpad or gyro because windows basically sees it nothing more than an xbox controller.

Thank yo so much EA-SK8ER!
This is what I did restored my computer to before I got the controller ,don’t load any software or drivers plugged the throttle in and paired it with the controller wirelessly .and it comes up as a ps4 controller as long as you use steam you can do all your tweets thru steam no need for the Astro software after it’s hooked up stop windows update in the advance section of updates you can stop them up to 35 days .if it does update restore before the update and the controller starts working again remember don’t load any software or drivers from anywhere just plug it in and stop updates
I’m about to purchase the C40 to use exclusively on Steam Big Picture and need the gyro and touchpad to work. Can anyone confirm that it’s still working natively as a PS4 controller in Steam? Thanks.

Thanks, Bananarama. I know of that list. I just bought a Nacon Revolution, which is listed but it shows up as an Xbox One controller in Steam. I’m hoping someone can confirm that the C40 shows up natively as a PS4 controller in Steam so that the gyro and touchpad are recognized and functional.
Well if you read my posts above there are some things you have to do to it so that it works. I sold mine a while back, but if you follow the steps I posted above it should work.
Thanks, EA-SK8ER. I’m happy to report that the C40 works flawlessly and natively in Steam. I just purchased it, plugged it in via the wireless dongle, and Steam recognized it as a PS4 controller, thus allowing you to configure the touchpad and gyro.
does the vibration also work by using this method?

Hi everyone so I was not able to find the xbox one controller drivers or the Astro c4 tr driver on the device manager. I tried following our noble senpai's instructions word for word but those drivers would not appear. What I did was "disabled" game mode in the windows 10 settings. I ahad updated the firmware of the c40 tr before I found out that steam reads this controller as an xbox controller. I thought I messed up and to try to see if I could revert the drivers I did the hard reset with a paperclip which is found on the back and under the program button. Then I uninstalled the Astro software app. Prior to doing this I had the same trackpad issue and I felt the same as all of you here, what is the point of having this controller if I can not utilize it as a ps4 controller. Anyway, this worked for me. I booted up Steam turned on my controller wireless and steam recognized the Astro c40 tr as a ps4 controller (i did select the ps4 configuration on steam) prior. The trackpad is working as it its supposed to and so this validates my purchase, otherwise I would have just returned it.

IDK which step I did made this work but its working now. Thanks and thank you Sk8er and Mj- for the instructions and effort.
