Asrock X470 Master Sli, what about it?

I'm seeing quite a bit of debate around this motherboard and I was wondering if I should go for it or not.
I'm looking for a motherboard that's compatible with my R5 3600 and this one has had it's BIOS updated, so it could run a 3000 series Ryzen cpu. Options in my country aren't that good, so currently this might be the best option.
Is this board as bad as some people are saying it is, or is it fine?

This is nonsence, lots of videos and testing showing zero difference with 3000 series CPUs in a 400 series board, I have zero issues running a 3600 in a gigabyte x370 k7 board.

Quite the contrary，The VRM on X470 Master SLI can handle a R7 3700X fine, but it has problems handling a R7 2700X, the latter need more power. Overall, it's a poorly designed board.

If you dont wanna spend much time tinkering bios and lotsa headache, just stick to x570 board.

I have 3900x and x470 taichi combox and it keep overheating (idle temp around 70-80c). The recent bios update fixed my problem, but who knows what kind of problem lies ahead.

Thats nothing to do with asrock, none of the am4 3xx or 4xx series boards will get pcie 4.0 support. However that's not the primary issue or concern. The issue is that many of the cheaper boards, especially from asrock seem very slow to get the cpu microcode updates, which is sorely needed for Ryzen 3xxx series

As an owner of X470 Master SLI/ac (revision 1.02) I have to say this board has been just fine as a daily and gaming PC (can't say much about the non-ac version but I think they are similar). It's often on-sale at a lower price than the Master SLI at newegg but x570 at near the same price point of $130 is probably a better deal depending on how much you don't dislike the notion of a chipset fan with x570. It handles R5 2600 and R7 3800X just fine however be sure if you go with any Zen2 cpu that you update to newest BIOS P3.60 (AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 ABB) but P3.30 (AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.1) will work fine as well if you ignore the over hyped boost and temps nonsense. If you get unlucky you may get board with older BIOS P1.90 and you may need to get a Zen/Zen+ cpu to do the BIOS update. (so check before you buy that it is Ryzen 3000 cpu ready) With R7 3800x (probably any Zen2 cpu) and 2 sticks of 32Gb dual rank at DDR4-3200 works very very well. I suspect any model Corsair 4.32 version memory LPX or RGB ram may need specific tRC timing adjustments +2 to +6 from their XMP spec (mine and other did, seems like an IC compatible issue with Ryzen) and yes it does work well with Corsair RGB ram if you're into that. BIOS is well - not many persons cup of tea - however it gets the job done if your not an extreme overclocker and btw don't bother OC the cpu with this board just OC the ram. And as usual with Ryzen XMP is hit or miss so just expect to manually set voltage, frequency, and timings. If you OC ram on this board with Zen2 use SOC 1.1v (mine did it by default on Zen2). Also use Windows 10 USB stick install at least 18.09 or higher and get drivers direct form AMD & Intel, only audio drivers direct from ASRock. As for SLI I don't even know if that works but at least you have another PCIe 3.0 8x slot for something hopefully useful. If you pair it with those boxy reference model RX 5700's or XT's beware there will be a tight fit and it will seem like the chipset heatsink will get in the way but just put some reverse flex on the opposite side of the MB about 1-2mm when putting the card in and the graphics card will lock into place.

If you can't afford a x570 board, get a MSI b450 Tomahawk max, it already has the latest bios update out of the box.

Asrock is also junk except for their Taichi boards.

That MSI B450 is much better choice, very good bang for buck.

I had the first non-max MSI b450 Tomahawk and it was nice. MSI did really well with B450 and the bios flash without needing a cpu feature was a great move on their part. Too bad about the rom size issue though.
