Any advise on gaming laptops under 1000$

I found the lenovo ideapad 340. Seems to be able to run most games at medium. Any experience?

I know it ain't ideal. But i need a laptop for school and my previous gaming laptop sudokud.

So spare me the bs that i def need to buy a 2500 desktop. I don't feel like robbing a a bank atm.

My advice? Avoid laptops because they always run really hot and run like garbage in comparison to desktops for the same price. It's not worth the mobility unless you're actually using the mobility function by leaving your home with it.

You could build a decent gaming desktop for $1000 that would blow laptops away. Get a laptop for real mobile work not gaming.

Get a cheap laptop for school and a entry level gaming pc for gaming, the two together should be doable for 1000 and will serve you better than a heavy slow gaming laptop which is needlessly heavy for school work when you are carrying it around all day.

The Ideapad L340 (assuming L340, since the other 340s I saw only had an integrated gpus) seems like a solid choice at first look. No experience with their laptops, but remember to look at all the stats and not just GPU if you're going to be bringing it to classes. It needs reasonable battery life unless you're going to be lugging the cord around, which never lasts as long in practice as it says it does on the store page. You also want to check videos reviewing the machine to make sure the fan isn't too noisy and that the machine stays relatively cool.

Yeah my last laptop got very hot. Burned down. But after 3 years of continues gaming so it's still not bad. The problem with this laptop is that there are about 3 video reviews. Not sold a lot..

Yeah, photoshop suite. Gonna study graphic design. Have to have at least a i5 if i follow the school advise.

Here are my tips for getting a good laptop:

- get a laptop that gives you the most ssd storage. After owning more than a dozen laptops, i learned that the most prone component on a laptop is the hdd. So you should always pick a laptop with ssd storage that fits your need. If you cant find one, find a laptop which hdd can be replaced with an ssd.

- weight. Trust me.. you will want to get the lightest laptop out there.

- for gaming laptop, start looking for laptops that give you the best gpu, then go down the hardware specs and see which one fits your needs.

- dont worry too much abt thermals. They all suck on laptop

- i usually only buy from well known pc manufacturers (dell, sony, lenovo, etc). While custom pc manufacturers (sager, xotic) make beast laptop, they all suck at updating their driver.

- dont fall for that long battery life ads. They all will lose abt 20% efficiency after a year of use

Compared to desktops, but they are still worth looking at to make sure there isn't a real problem there. I've seen a few laptops that were advertised for gaming, but would break down within a year because the case couldn't handle the heat. Some companies cut corners.

If you haven't already got your new laptop, I will suggest that there is one other important thing to consider: How accurate is the color space of the monitor? I bought a Dell G3 15 last year and it does ok for gaming but the panel was terrible for color space. I have since replaced the panel but I would have chosen something different if I had been more careful looking at specs BEFORE I bought it.

My msi gaming laptop sounds like a jet when I game on it or do anything strenuous. Even with a cooling pad. I just use it for work now which seems a waste

yeah, i don't mind sound, but my last laptop was an msi and after 3 years the motherboard just melted of that heat. so i am seriously watching out for that.
