Would an I7 4790K bottleneck an RTX 2080 TI at 4K 144HZ?
help pls

No, probably not. It would depend on the game / task you're doing.

An i7-4790k can handle almost any game these days, any game if it's decently overclocked.

And, you're not going to get 144fps at 4k with a single 2080ti, hell, you won't even get it with two 2080tis.
If you're looking for 144fps/hz, get a 1440p144hz monitor. And the 2080ti, you'll still have better looks, and the smoother framerate.

And hotter temperatures^

My 3570k (4-core) bottlenecked my 2080 Ti significantly. I now have the i5 9600k (6-core) that improved my gameplay by 30-40 fps in certain games and that's with a 1440p, 144hz IPS freesync monitor.

I'm thinking you won't get 4k 144hz for the same reasons Autumn has described.

I was going to say you won't get it in SLI with two 2080tis and a modern generation CPU, too, but Autumn already commented on that as well.

Also I suspect you already knew that, but hey we're here to help right.

Forget about price for a second, i'm debating on upgrading my monitor in the future to be more...well futureproofed. I'm debating between the ASUS PG27UQ and the ASUS PG35VQ. I'm currently using the AOC AG271QG and it's nice and all but i really want that ultrawide and HDR performance or maybe that 4K HDR performance.

Still the old CPu si rgeat for gamign but not fast enough to drive 4K 144Hz as 144Hz is also heavily CPU depending. 4K with a single 2080 Ti 60fps can be a pain already and will not be achieved in all games unless you drop the settings. SLI is not always supported but with that CPU nowhere close to be run without heavy bottleneck.

However if you buy the monitor for feature proofing then just do it. The original question will still be no and nobody can tell you when you actually will be able to play 4K with 144Hz.

The 4790k is a fine cpu but I believe is a 4 core chip that may bottleneck the 2080 Ti. The 3570k certainly did on my Ti and at 1440p.

4k is going to be gpu limited, with games maxed
you can lower settings reduce gpu load

144hz is more cpu limiting

How will it not botteneck a 2080 ti? It is a ancient cpu
Mine pc now is
RYZEN 7 1700
16 GB DDR4 3200MHZCL15 GS KILL RIP JAWS CL15
GTX 970 G1 GAMING
DELLP2416D 24'' 2560X1440 60 HZ IPS
Iam waiting for 3080ti to upgrade so will it bottleneck it? I decied to not support nvidia by bying 2080ti as ti is a big scum a big waste of money since you get a card that is not being able to run max settings 1440p with full ray tracing.
OP the answer is there is no currently graphics card avaliable that can run max settings 4k 144 fps and there will not be for a long time so dont waste your money on 4k 144 hz. Instead, get a 4k 60 hz HDR monitor and wait for RTX 3080TI like iam doing. The only way i will buy a 2080ti is if my gtx 970 that now is 4 years and 9 months old(ihave it since november 2014 but in 2017 i upgraded rest of the pc).

That CPU may be 'ancient' but it still has more single/quad threaded performance than your R7 1700, which is what counts in the majority of games.

My 3700x is already bottlenecking my 2080 ti in open wolrd games at 1440p(tho not constantly) so i just cant see a 4790k working out at high refresh but it is noticeable eapecially in far cry 5 jesus the stuttering and dips are atrocious

Im not so sure its not something up with the game in that case but pretty much any other open wolrd game ive tried same story hell even fallout 4 pushes a couple cores into the 60-70-80% range and gpu usage starts droppin its to the point in considering getting a 9700k i have a 4.35ghz all core and this is still happening i havent even got to the real cpu intensive games yet

That's a 3700x thing. Both the 3700x and 9700k bottleneck a 2080ti in a small number of games but not the same games. It's mentioned in digital foundry's youtube 3700x review.

I really wouldnt care but a newer chip bottlenecking and still getting lower fps than a 9700k is annoying and considering they only ran their 9700k at 4.6ghz all core thats rather embarrassing to have those differences because ryzen 3000 chips gain nothing from oc’ing i get the same fps at 4ghz as at 4.35
