return them if you can
locked i5 is slower than amd cpus at this time
the x10 chipset boards are very cut down, 2 dimm slots max and few other features

make sure windows is set to use all cores
start -> run/search -> msconfig
boot tab -> [advanced options] -> untick number of processors -> reboot

you do not manually open 'BIOS' update files.
place the update at the root folder of your usb flash drive.
power ON your PC.
go to bios, then bios update page.
when prompted, navigate to your bios update file in your usb flash drive.

or do the bios update within windows OS (more risky) as motherboard manufacturers allow this method, at least in my very old motherboards...
check your motherboard manufacturer's bios update page.

As others said, if you can return it, ryzen is faster and cheaper at this point.

Are you sure? An i5-9400, z390 mobo, 16gb ddr 3000 is $314 on newegg.

The first faster ryzen is a 3600 isn't it? What's a ryzen 3600 equivalent cost?

It's a locked chip, so a 2600 can match or beat it for less.

According to gamers nexus' benchmarks the i5-8400 is faster than the r5 2700. So I'd assume that the i5-9400 is faster than the r5 2600.

That's fair, the Intel is 5% faster, now add in things that can use the extra threads or streaming and the ryzen comes ahead, plus, it's really cheap now and I'm pretty sure the ultra budget 310 mobo can't use mce so it's stuck at a single core turbo vs ryzen all core, with overclocking, for less.

So what's the price?

How much less?

even vs the r5 2600

i doubt you paid less for the i5 9400 and board

if near a microcenter you can get the r5 2600 + mobo for $163+tax

Quite a bit less.
And remember, the i5-9400F may be good in games NOW, it's going to be worse later on when games start using more threads, or if the user wants to do other things while gaming, like watching a stream on another monitor, or streaming themselves.
The i5-9400F is a bad buy in 2019.
