i don't see how that wouldn't make things easier
For the other cases, i have a small adapter at home where i simply insert the MicroSD card and then put that into a USB slot, acts like a USB drive then.
All you would need is a usb flash drive looking adapter that supports sd/micro sd cards.
Installing 3.5 inch card readers are a thing of the past and rather pointless. And they often live a short life due to how cheaply made they are.
Ive been using usb flash drive looking adapters for years. Instead of usb flash drives with a set size, I just use am adapter and swap out sd cards. It works just like a normal flash drive. I have each major os on a seperate sd card, allowing boot installs, repairs, etc. Or other tools like Linux livecd for certain distros, hires boot cd, memtest, the list goes on
you can easily buy cheap usb card readers, or front panel card readers (if you pc case supports them)

not all PC cases have 3.5" or 5.25" front panel slots.
cd/dvd/blu-ray writers are already optional hence the slots are usually not a feature anymore on PC case models.
if you need a card reader, you can get usb 3.5 or 5.25 bays with readers on them
sd = 2g limit
sdhc = 32g limit
sdxc = 2t limit
sduc = 128t limit
When u buy a prebuild desktop or laptop with then built in, it is simply a card reader connected to usb
Many folks don't even remove their SD card and simply plug in the device to pc via usb cable. You can view the SD card that way as well. Whether it's a phone, tablet, camera, etc.
