Ryzen 1700X to 3600 worth to upgrade?

Update: I got the Ryzen 5 3600 now.

everything is up to date.

oh yea, I forgot to mention something. this blue screen error message is SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED while playing or even idling on desktop.

and for the black screen.. it just happens randomly when playing games regardless RAM is overclocked or not.

Don't install the newest amd chipset drivers. It will screw up your pc with endless bsod, ie 5-15min from booting, even when idling at desktop. The way I fixed mine is by reverting to my original chipset drivers. Been super stable for over a day now.

If you've never installed the newest amd drivers, then the only thing I can suggest is to find an even older version. Mine was from the end of 2017 (b350), and I never really bothered updating, which ended up being a blessing.

Purely for gaming purpose? Not much unless whatever you're playing is bottlenecked by your 1700X.

What about CPU features? Like max effective RAM overclock speed.

Sure, if you have a 1080p 144hz monitor and have the 1700x matched with a gtx 1080 or stronger.

It depends on the rest of your rig, and if you have 3000Mhz+ RAM I wouldn't worry much about getting to 3600Mhz.

I'm in the same boat. Don't think it's worth it for me. Everything I do on my pc runs perfect right now and most of my library is older games and what I have now are good enough for the couple new games i do plan on getting. I think I'll skip this and wait for at least next release so I can just hop onto a new board with new ram also.

Well, I'm lacking of RAM clock speed, and the 1700X is bottlenecking my games (especially source engine based game).

1700X should be more than enough for any Source games, even a lesser cpu would do fine on those.

Ddr4 3000 is all you should really need and should work well on most am4 boards.

What's your full specs, such as ram model, board model, gpu and os

Well, I don't know anything about RAM overclocking, so I stick with maximum guaranteed to work overclock speed at 2666Mhz.

Specs:
T-Force Delta RGB 2x8 dual channel DDR4 memory 3000Mhz
Asrock B450 Pro4
XFX RX 580 8GB
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit build 1903

Overclocking, no... you simply enable the xmp profile in the bios to enable the ram to run at its intended specs. Otherwise it loads up as 2133 as a fail safe default.

There is no reason your PC wouldn't wipe the floor with Source games and run at very high fps at all times for those games, which are not even demanding.

Now are you using a 60hz Display? If so it might be time to upgrade that instead.
