DCOM ERROR CRASH? (i think)
has anyone else experienced a DCOM error that reboots your machine? i even set it not to and my pc will still reboot, i never had this issue until i bought new pc parts maybe something isn't compatible together? is that even possible now a days? the error is 10016 and it has to do with editing registry keys permissions in the component services :rwromg: im not Bill Gates ive never done anything like this before to my PC. is anyone a little more familiar with this issue? any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

What parts did you change.
What OS are you running.

okay i have changed alot basically everything but the hard drives. i re-installed windows 10 when i got all the new parts i reset it i believe. like i mentioned everything is new the processor ram motherboard power supply and graphics card the only thing left untouched were the 2 hard drives and one has windows on it and the other is my complete steam library. im not sure if that is a issue having the games on a different drive but im not too computer savvy and i never had any problems until i got new parts. i was going to try and follow the steps dave listed in the previous post and see if that worked but im also afraid of breaking something so ya. and this has been going on for weeks in particular with gta 5 i cant even play it crashes right away and this dcom error is the only thing showing up in the event log. and its asking me to do registry editing that i have no experience with.... (goodtimes) i can list the parts i bought if that would help but i try to keep these posts short and btw theres no way any of the games i play are stressing out this pc everything is set to low and from what i can tell nothing is getting too hot or catching on fire or anything obvious... could there be something wrong with a component i bought? this is ruining my life i swear to god the steps listed by dave are my last hope unless you have some experience with this kind of thing bad .. thanks for your time bro

oh and another thing to add is it crashes randomly sometimes when im playing szone its a really old shooter game and its the same error but then i see that error occuring in the log and it DOESNT reboot my pc but when i go into certain maps on szone it crashes like gta and the differences in the games requirements is staggering szone should not be crashing my pc i swear this whole issue makes me wanna cry i just wanna game with my bros FML

Yea don't reset the os, boot from a Win10 usb flash drive and reinstall the os fully. When done do Windows Updates until none are left. Install NET & ASP Frameworks from Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn featureson/off.

Then download and install all of the latest hardware drivers for your stuff. Chipset, Gpu, Audio, Lan, Wifi, BT, etc...

If you win10 usb flash drive is from before May 2019, wipe it clean and remake it with 1903 using the latest media creation tool from the MS Win10 website.

okay i don't have a flash drive but i have a disk will that work? sorry if this are amatuerish questions bro. i also checked to see if the .NET and ASP frameworks were enabled and the .NET was but the ASP wasn't and something called WCP was checked in that sub catergory and i reset the PC 2 days ago and haven't modified anything. i understand i will need a full fresh install which might take me awhile but id rather try this than edit the registry i did previously have all current drivers and was still getting the errors but that was a reset of windows not fresh.

i checked just to make sure i knew what i was looking for after i reinstall windows

The disc will be too old. Users need a usb flash drive so they can remake it over time with the very latest build of Win10

Fresh install takes maybe 15-30 mins

Then it's just a matter of a couple Windows Updates, then install all of your drivers and apps. You can do a clean install on a drive that already has Win10 installed. The previous os and all those personal files will get moved to "c:/windows.old"

If you use a Win10 disc, you'll be on a os build from years ago and the os has to go through way too much in terms of an upgrade process to get it up to date.

You don't need a usb drive, it's just more convenient. You can run the install from the extracted iso or mounted iso. Not sure how complicated or what extra steps you have to take (if any) but Google has a bunch of results on how to do it.

ISO is just the entire media in compressed form. Still need a usb flash drive to house the media and made bootable. The media creation tool does all of that for you when a flash drive is connected, ready to be wiped clean. 8gb minimum size flash drive. 16gb usb flash drive is around $5

Then boot from the Win10 flash drive, select custom, then select the same edition you own, Home or Pro. During product key page you can click skip. Win10 has been activated before on the machine then you can self activate it via the activation page in the OS Settings, Updates and Security section, once an internet connection is established.

If you want to fully wipe your drive during os install, first I'd make sure any secondary ssds or hdds are first disconnected prior to install. Then during installer you can click each partition of drive 0 and click delete until all are removed, then click next. The os installer will auto partition and quick format the drive.

Yea once get a usb flash drive, connect it and rerun the media creation tool (right click it and click run as admin) and it will see the connected flash drive. Then have option to create usb, instead of just iso option.

Then select...
English
Windows 10
64bit

okay i did everything as instructed but i have one question should i have fully wiped the drive clean i can re do this all if that was a mistake. i noticed what you mentioned about disconnecting the drives i struggled to identify the correct one and seen numerous partitions on the C: drive and was wondering if i did it correctly. i d/l the drivers from my motherboard website audio, lan, chipset and graphics card drivers and install all plus did windows fully i just need to enable the windows features you mentioned. is there anything obvious ive missed like crucial drivers etc?
