Bindings for a mouse wheel
I'm looking to upgrade from a cheap gaming mouse to something proper, what I do know is that if i click the side buttons on a mouse when binding controls, they show up as mouse 4 and 5, I usually set them to frags/throwing/special ability.

Now on some mice such as the Logitech G502 you can instead of scrolling up or down, move the wheel left or right, in a web browser or a spread sheet this would let the user scroll left or right.

Now what happens if I want to bind something to lets say 'wheel left'? Does the game pick up something like 'mouse 6' or 'scroll left'? or does nothing happen unless I use the mouse software to bind 'wheel left' to lets say 'q'?

I've not encountered any game that detects any G502 mouse buttons other than the usual

Left
Right
Middle
Mouse 4
Mouse 5
and mousewheel

To use the other buttons on the G502 you need to either scan for the game and assign the default commands to the button you wish to use or assign the key you wish to use.

For example the G502 software might detect a game and using the games default keys it'll list them in the software as Fireball, Invisibility, shield or something. You assign those commands to what button you want. If you actuallly select edit command you'll see they are simply the key used for that ability.

Games that don't do the above are basically the same except you'll need to assign the key and label it as you wish. For example
Fireball key in the game is F1. On the mouse software you select a button and select > Assign new command > Keystroke
Under the Enter keystroke............ option Press the F1 key
Then under the Name section Type in Fireball

Do this for any other button you want to bind.

depends on the game
some will allow 3-5 buttons to be re-bound, others will not

The side scrolling though, I've yet to see a game where I could use that, or use that as buttons.
