Why don't you post what you've been looking at & a budget.
Edit: I've got 3 Asus G-series laptops with 965m, 1050ti & 1070 respectively. There is a huge difference between the 1050ti & 1070.
A 1660 is on par with a 1070. If you could hold out for a 1660 (over the 1650), I'd think you'd be happy for a significantly longer period. But I'm not sure about the drop off between the 1650 & 1660. The 1050ti is starting to show it's limits.
Maybe you can find a good deal on some last gen gaming laptops with gtx 1060, if so, get that.
Would say either buy GTX 1050 Ti now (still vast upgrade from what you currently have) or save for GTX 1060, 1660.
Step 1: Buy a optiplex 7010
Step 2: Put a GT 1030 in It
Oh wait, You said laptop?
Na desktop all the way.
But also right now, given the pricing of gtx 1060 6gb, 1660 Ti, rtx super 2060. No more reason to look at gtx 1060. Especially since 1660 Ti and Super 2060 are not that expensive and would easily give you performance that previously would need either 1070 or 1070 Ti to get, which were much more expensive compared to current 1660 Ti or 2060
If you are in USA, could go on ebay and get a Dell.OptiPlex cheap, with i7-4770 or 4790, 16gb ddr3 1600, various combinations of drives, such as 250gb ssd and 1tb hdd. Then simply get a rock solid PSU and then basically whatever GPU you want.
btw, Intel HD 4000 was surprisingly capable of running older dx9 games in it's time, I do believe integrated graphics will one day make discreet graphics irrelevant, it'll be a while but it'll happen.
1050 Ti is just not good enough for most 1080p games, it's the bare minimum
Any why would you say 1050 ti can't handle 1080p? It runs thousands of games at 1080p 60 fps. You would literally have to only play the most graphically demanding modern titles to get a 1050 ti to falter. And did you know that games have something called video and graphic settings? Is medium/normal a crime...especially on a laptop screen?
The OP is clearly on a budget and budget does not mean recommend me a laptop where I can run everything maxed out on ultra. The best value for his price range is clearly a 1050 ti
