Crashes in games - Radeon WattMan message

Since yesterday i have crashes at least in 3 games. I think it`s not limited to those games. Sometimes i had errors, a lot of times i did not. All the time it gives me message

"Default Radeon WattMan settings has been restored due to unexpected system failure"

I tried checking for corrupted Windows files and it says it fixed them.
I cleaned all latest driver content and installed clean version which i used for some time without problems. Tried clean install of latest version too.
I installed latest Windows updates.

Problem details:

It just freezes and then crashes. Sometimes graphical artifacts appear before crash (when freezes). I had them before, PC isn`t new, but never had such problems like crashes.
Yesterday i had no electricity for many hours. I did not used PC myself when electricity disappeared, but it was on... It was still on when electricity returned. Maybe something was damaged? I had problems with electricity before, but never had outcomes like this.
I use power surge protector thing.

I`m out of ideas what to do now. Hope i can still play games without crashes. New PC won`t come very soon.

GPU is AMD R9 290X 4GB VRAM. Latest drivers at the moment.

UPDATE 1: Tried GPU stress test for 58 minutes. At first it said 20600 errors, but in the end, when i cancelled it, 0 errors. Shader complexity 5.

UPDATE 2: Tried CPU stress test. No problems (?)

UPDATE 3: Tried testing RAM with memtest. No errors so far.

UPDATE 4: Scanned both drives for viruses. No threats.

UPDATE 5: Some games exit fullscreen mode after few minutes of launch.

UPDATE 6: Tried GPU stress test with MSI Kombustor. Benchmark (1080) and custom preset (for 30 minutes). No crashes or anything.

UPDATE 8: Tried older game. Artifacts and freeze after 2-3 minutes. Playable for few seconds again and then black screen and weird noise. Had to reboot PC. Before launch it had very loud and strange fan noise.

I think i had all symptoms of dying GPU =/. Case closed. Only one solution left.

UPDATE 9: Did clean install of AMD latest drivers 1.9.7.2. Installed MSI Afterburner and underclocked memory from 1250 to 1230. Enabled constant voltage, increased power limit to 50 and set fans to automatic. Playing Fable Anniversary now. Almost 40 minutes and no crash yet. Fans are very quiet for some reason. They were loud before. I don`t know if this is because of tweaks or latest drivers. Tried MK11 and it worked well too. Played an hour. Fans were quiet.

UPDATE 10: Problem returned.

Card replacement is only solution now. Problem solved. No more comments needed.

UPDATED 11: Just for information. Had 1 long and 3 short beeps when tried to manually restart PC while games was frozen (with graphical artifacts).

Did you read the description? I did clean install of different versions of drivers few times.

A bit of bump.

Almost whole day wasted on this crap. I don't know what else to test... I hope some of you had similar experience or maybe have PC related education. I'll become crazy if i won find a solutiom for this problem =P. I can't play without crashes and games crash fast. Like after 5-10 minutes.
Tried Fable A. And it had freeze with graphical glitches after 3 hours of playtime, then it went normal for few seconds, then after second or two black screen, then normal again and i managed to save game and exit.
WattMan error appeared again.

That's what stood out to me in your post. The R9 290X is an old (but still capable) gpu, but from the sounds of it yours might be nearing the end of its life.

It is an old card. I bought this PC almost five years ago. I can understand artifacts, but crashes without errors on the other hand... It worked fine before Thursday. Strange symptom.

Can you give more information about the drive these games are installed on?. Hdd/sdd? same partition as your os?. How long you had it?. If it it the drive you can try playing the games off another drive and see if it's stable. If it's stable it's probably your drive.

If it is your gpu maybe you can try using your motherboard video (if applicable) and try running a game (even if it's a less demanding one) for stability testing. If it's stable it's probably your gpu.

My games installed on HDD. It`s used for games and other content. OS and 1 other game (for faster loading) are installed on main SSD.
Everything except PSU was bought at the same time. 2015. Can drive crash game and give WattMan error?
I will try to install one game, which crashed, to main/SSD. Luckily the size isn`t huge for today standards.

I`m not sure if that`s possible with my motherboard. It`s GA-970A-UD3P (rev. 1.0).

Try installing 16.11.5 Radeon. My GPU works completely fine at that version, anything above it will crash my GPU to a black screen. (if i game more than 15 min)
The only problem you would have is that if you Windows 10 installed, it will have a GPU update on standby (it wont install though by it self) its kinda hard to explain, you have to see it yourself if you install Radeon 16.11.5

looks like you can't with that motherboard which is unfortunate because having that backup video output can really help in times like this.

I`ll try this version. I didn`t used WattMan either, but it`s a part of AMD drivers. AMD loves to add all kind of junk to their drivers. Future GPU will be probably from Nvidia.

Played MK11 for around 30 minutes. No glitches and no crashes. Looks like you`re my new hero.

Crashed again...
Possibly game related crash. Not sure.

EDIT: It`s not game related crash i think. Had artifacts on last launch, black screen for a second and crash.

You got another stable pc you could throw that videocard in and see if the problem follows?
