It's open source, meaning the code is freely available on the internet. It's free because it's a huge collaboration between many programmers and companies who all use it. People who work on it profecionally are doing so for a company which uses Linux or the Linux Foundation might hire people, they earn money though donations and members.

It does really well in gaming. Many games are ported natively and most Windows-only games run without any meaningful issues. You can play Windows games on Linux through Steam. And you can play games from Battlenet or Origin through Lutris.

Some games don't work, games which use intrusive anti cheat or DRM often don't work, games like this include Rainbow Six Siege and Fortnite. But Valve is working on fixing these issues.

Performance differs per game, sometimes performance is worse, sometimes it's about the same and sometimes it's a lot better.

You can just download Windows 10 media creation tool to 8 GB USB drive and use it for free.
Downside is that you cant use desktop customization and it puts the watermark of Activate Windows on the bottom right corner of your screen with light grey letters.
As far as I know there is no time limit of how long you can use it that way.

Just install Win10 64bit Pro and use it all you want as-is. You can always get a key cheap later on. Make your own Win10 usb flash drive.

Those keys came form MSDN subscriptions. One pays a yearly subscription fee and gets unlimited number of windows keys which have a validity period of 90 days once activated. The thing is , Microsoft doesn't revoke the expired keys, once activated they stay activated.

Some of them might be yes. I have also been using several such temporary keys for years already, on several machines.

Fraud is a part of the keys. I am sure that like you are saying some of them are from different sources.

Go get a key on eBay for 5 bucks and move on lol. Plenty of positive reviews no issues, or pay an arm and a leg and feel cheated because you could have just used the free version and get use to the watermark.

Yes you don't need any key to install and use Win10. But make your own install media so it's the latest version of Win10 from the start.

There is no real.need to do that. It's linked to the motherboard through the digital lisence if it's already been activated before for that edition on that board.
