GTX 1070 (upgrade)--->RTX 2060?
should i? im using the helios 500 laptop now
Edit: Sorry for lack of description. Upgrading to RTX 2060 means either i need to get External GPU or perhaps move to dekstop build entirely with RTX 2060

I hope you dont plan to upgrade your laptop because that does not work.
You cant exchange laptop GPU.

As for the cards themselves, the 2060 is about a 10-15% increase in performance in most games compared to the 1070.
If that is worth the upgrade price is something you have decide for yourself.
Personally i say no, get at least a 2060 Super or 2070 to make it worthwhile.
Well, it is technically possible. But yeah, definitely not worth it.
That's not even much of an upgrade. If you plan to upgrade through laptop, make it a full-fat RTX 2080 at least (which means preferably not Max-Q), otherwise go for 2080S/2080 Ti.
I have an interesting video, on a channel I found recently, that shows how to run an external GPU on a laptop. The video is short (less than 20 minutes) but shows how to connect an external gpu to your laptop.

I haven't tried the project yet but the instructions are clear and concise.

It was something I would've poo-pooed before now. Just depends on how brave you are.

It's possible, but Thunderbolt 3's bandwidth limits means lower-resolution screens suffer huge performance penalties (think Helios 500 sports a 1080p panel) and high-end GPUs perform below par regardless of scenario. OP'd have benefitted from this if they had an Ultrabook with integrated GPU, but with seeing how they have a 1070 already onboard, the prospect's questionable.
You can use an external gpu bank to plug and play into a laptop .

Even if you're prepared to spend considerable time unsoldering the existing GPU and resoldering a new one, it seems unlikely the size and pins (and signalling of the pins!) of a different class GPU chip will match up.

Chance of bricking laptop = exceedingly high.
