Roughly how long does this PSU last?

There's no set time on these things, but as long as it's a decent model it should last you for up to a decade

I would return it, no reason to buy 10years old unit.

The S12II is still the best budget PSU while it got a refresh 1 or 2 years ago. With a great build quality. It missing some newer safety features that still some high end PSU's missing today.
It's not an issue TBH.

If you read the entire thread you see that many disagree there with the OP.

PS got the last 10 years not a single RMA for that PSU or complaints that it broke down outside of the 2y warranty. Can't be so bad as some pop believe that only read paper stats.

so this is a fine PSU to get? the specs I'm getting will make a total of around 340w, if I NEED to go to 620w then i will

No need to go higher then unless you want build a high end PC. In that case I would get a better PSU. A PC worth 2 grands should have thevspare money to invest 100 bucks on a top tier PSU.

For low end or mid range tier it really doesn't matter.

Chieftec Navitas GPM-550S is the best budget unit, but I would look for Chieftec GPS-550AB(made by Delta) since many people use it and not a single problem since 2008. No reason to pay more for brand name and warranty you wont use anyway.

I wouldn't get anything that isn't on any tier list you can find on google, and even if it is, I wouldn't get less than a Tier 2 or 3 depending on budget. The only exception would be with a basic home/office PC that doesn't need a beefy PSU.

It's not about warranty and branding, it's about sticking by a brand and line-up that is known to be reliable by the masses and less likely to fail and kill a system. Chieftec doesn't look horrible, but it's such an unknown brand in North America to most that it's hard to get a clear picture of how they stack up. Until they actually make it onto popular tier lists, I still stand by SeaSonic S12II and similar models.
