Advice on a new Monitor
Hello everyone, i'm looking to buy a new monitor for my PC but I'm not too sure on what would be the best one? From what I've heard the main thing to make sure it is that the refresh rate is nice. I've done some research and many people say that this Dell D2719HGF 27" Full HD 1920x1080 144Hz 2ms is really good for the price (I'm trying for under $200). I just wanted someones opinion. Also That monitor says it has AMD FreeSync, yet I am using an Nvidia 1050ti GPU. Would this monitor not work with my PC, would it not be working at full potential, or does it not even matter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With your current GPU, you're not going to get above 60 FPS in modern titles, but you can in older games that don't take much, like CS:GO. Do take care to limit your frame rate in some cases though, as if your system is too weak to handle 144 FPS stable in games that will go that high, it can cause stuttering and make the experience worse.

GTX 10 series cards do support FreeSync, NVIDIA calls it G-Sync Compatible, and pretty much every FreeSync monitor you can buy today should work with your 1050 Ti, provided you have driver version [insert version here, can't remember or seem to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ find it]. As long as you've kept your GPU driver up to date, it'll support G-Sync Compatible/FreeSync.

Also need to use a DisplayPort cable in order to who Gsync on a FreeSync monitor. Plus there is many FreeSync monitor models that's adaptive sync feature doesn't work with 10XX and 20XX Nvidia GPUs, leaving you with only lousy in-game Vsync or none and have tearing. Use this reliable thrid party group to help see what models are guaranteed to be Gsync compatible.

If I do get at 144hz monitor I can still make the games run at 60fps right? It's not like the games have to run at 144 if I'm not mistaken. Would it be a better idea to just get a 144hz in case I do upgrade my GPU in the future?

Also are these the right display cables? I just looked these up on Amazon. Are they all the same or are there different models?

You should get a DisplayPort cable with the monitor anyway, don't worry about it EDIT: The monitor you linked doesn't come with DP cable, it only comes with HDMI.

And you can use programs like RivaTuner Statistics Server, which is included with MSI Afterburner but can be standalone, to limit your framerate per game or with a global profile.

Ok Thanks. Here is a link to the monitor I mentioned above. Many videos I saw and reviews said that this is a good monitor. Is that true or are there better monitors I can get for a similar price? Also the tool you mentioned, Afterburner, My GPU is Gigabyte. Does that matter or does Gigabyte have there own tool?

At that price its a matter of compromising picture or refresh rate, you can't have both.

MSI Afterburner is the most widely used, nobody really uses the others, with the exception of EVGA's tool for overclocking their GPU

So I'm assuming this monitor doesn't have that good of a picture then. Because I don't really play FPS games or anything that requires that high of a framerate would it be a better idea to get a monitor with 60hz and a good picture?

Yes, its a TN.

60hz is fine especially for non fps games, especially now with freesync. Just buy a dell ultrasharp, buy right so you don't have to buy twice. Quality matters, its what you interface with most, and ergonomics matter, ultrasharp has full adjustment and vesa mount. The 27" doesn't even have height adjustment.

So jus get a 24" ultrasharp, higher quality > bigger size

It does look nice and the fact that it is a $400 monitor that is almost half off doesn't look bad either. I checked out some reviews and people say it is nice but not the best for gaming, but I'm assuming they are referring to FPS games. To be honest most of the games I play are games like Skyrim SE, Civ 6, Total War, ESO, Assassin's Creed, and other games like that. Would this monitor display these games at a smooth 60 fps, not shuttering, or other weird effects? Sorry if I'm becoming annoying with my questions. I just want to make sure I get this right before I buy anything. Your help is really appreciated.

Instead of spending $400 on monitor he should be spending some of that money for better graphics card like GTX 1660 Ti instead.

Yes, only fps gaming, and only if you are competitive, because honestly people played on 60hz monitors not that long ago and it wasn't as if that was the dark ages where no one could aim.

Its amazing how much the marketing has done, almost all tv's are 60hz actual framerate and people have been playing games on them forever. All consoles are effectively 60hz systems.

Meh, speak for yourself. I pretty much only play single player or story based games and I will never be able to go back to 60hz. That's like saying we don't need 4k when people have been watching tv at 720p for years. It still looks nicer and is more enjoyable. If you haven't seen it for yourself I would encourage you to look next time youre in the store or friends house if anyone has 144hz screen.

If you don't mind curved panels consider the Viotek GN27CB, VA has much better color quality than TN
