Is TLC NVMe ssd good enough for gaming
Have no idea what they mean, just seen a lot of speculation around them in reviews and such and want to know if the tlc ssd I’m looking at is good enough (don’t give a crap about sata ssds I have a M.2 and I’m going to use it)

SSD has no advantage in gaming as in terms of FPS. Only benefit is reduced load times.

TLC = Expensive, decent/good/awesome performance, great max terrabytes written.
QLC = Cheap, decent/good performance, decent max terrabytes written.

"Good" performance and up is overkil for gaming and normal desktop usage.

Any SSD would be a massive upgrade over a HDD.

I would go with a M.2 NVMe SSD like the Intel 660p for it's great price per gigabyte. If you need performance and have money to burn or don't need a lot of storage aim for a Samsung 970 Evo.

Which I’m fully aware of, an ssd ♥♥♥♥♥ on HDD as why I’m getting one and I want a M.2 to fill the slot and can’t be stuffed with cables right now.
any nvme drive will be fine. personally i recommend not skimping on such things and would recommend a 970 evo from samsung.

TLC is just the type of NAND flash memory afaik. it's cheaper than SLC or MLC making it more appealing to budget minded consumers but it is also a bit slower and has less TBW than the other types

Thank you, this is the response I was looking for. I have a 970 who 256gb for os and currently using a 3tb HDD but man it’s slow for load times haha. Was looking at the 660p but the negative in reviews were due to QLC and larger files slowing it down, for a bit more I could get the ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G RGB 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD which is TLC and also RGB which cmon is a must XD, what do you think? Just get the 660p or?

The 970 evo is very nice, my boot times have never been so lightning quick thanks to it but not really looking at spending $339 AUD on a 1tb one when a cheaper ssd will load games the exact same time if you know where I’m coming from

The 660p slowing down during large writing tasks is unlikely to ever cause you issues if it will only be used as a OS and game drive.

The 660p's QLC flash will still outlive any HDD by wel over a decade during normal usage. So no need to take max TBW in to consideration unless you torture the drive.

yea i know what you mean.. my m.2 slots remain empty because i'd rather spend the money on hardware that will make a difference. i'm happy with my 850 evo

So no RGB? ): haha nah I understand what you are saying, it would be purely just for games, lord knows I want cyberpunk loading ASAP

Recently bought a 2080ti and got a 9900k for my birthday so just trying to max other areas for my pc haha, that’s why I’m thinking of the RGB ssd, reckon it would look sick with my setup XD

RGB makes it go faster and that is a fact.

Now that’s what I wanted to hear! Ya sold me (;
Just get a cheaper SATA 2.5" SSD for game storage, NVMe doesn't make a good enough difference for it to be worth the price.

However, if you have an expensive board with multiple M.2 slots that support PCI-e Gen3 (or 4 if you have an X570) interfaced SSDs, and you can afford to splurge a bit on something frankly overkill, there isn't really a reason not to fill those slots with 1TB+ NVMe SSDs.

What if I tell you that there are 1TB NVMe drives which are cheaper than 1TB SATA while having significantly better performance.

then also know that M.2 is just a port for SATA and NVMe (PCI-E 3.0 x4). If you want to "just" fill it you could even do it with a normal SATA M.2-2280.
NVMe for msot ppl wont make a real difference. Most stuff is within less then 1s improvement. However the Intel 660p can be bought for dirt cheap
