Western digital Black 2 dual drive
Hi i ave an WD dual drive installed the smart test in windows and in diskmark show the drive as healty but steam wont install games on de 1Tb part of the dual drive

I constantly get write errors when i try to install games to the hdd part of the drive.

i am getting frustrated with steam, origin and normal games install fine but steam wont.

Most games i bought trough steam so i cant play them on my laptop.

Are you running Steam as the admin?

:qr:
yes
even formated the hdd part of the drive, let it reconfigure trough wds software for it. even have a complete cleam install
now again, it shows as downloading test drive unlimited 2 one of the less masive games i have.

it says its done butat the end in still failes with write error
strange thing is forza horizon 4 trough ms store is almost 90GB and that goes to the same drive part as steam does and the ms store download goes fine way past the 8GB mark that test drive has for example
free space in the target drive?
825GB free of 931GB
that is with the game fully downloaded aready

do both partitions have drive letters assigned?

steam -> settings -> downloads -> [steam library folders]
create a library on the other partition/drive letter
steam -> library -> right click on game -> properties -> local files -> move to the other drive
do a fresh install of steam to the new drive or either on your windows drive then manually move it to a new folder via steam settings dont take long at all

Yeah SSd part has C its the windows drive
HD part has D
Color me curious, but what do you mean by "WD dual drive"? A single HDD partitioned into two? You should not have any issue installing your games as long as you select the proper drive, Steam would create a 'SteamLibrary' folder in the selected drive (assuming you already have a main folder in another drive, in which case it'd be labeled simply as 'Steam').

I'd recently built a new Ryzen system with a 4TB and a 2TB SSD, as well as a 6TB WD Black HDD (partitioned equally into two partitions). I started out with main 'Steam' folder in my 2TB SSD, for games that I play often. For games I don't play that often, I'd stored them in my HDD under 'SteamLibrary'. It was a rather simple and painless process actually.
^ a wd dual drive has both ssd and hdd packaged into one product.

Is that so? Geez, I'd thought they were called SSHD or solid state hybrid drive.....oh well, live and learn.

Edit - Makes no difference though, OP should not have any problem installing his games into an SSHD/dual drive. I'd thought of going SSHD in the Seagate FireCuda, but instead went with 2x SSD's for storage instead.

hybrids are seen as a single drive in bios and disk management
they can be partitioned like any other drive, but the drive itself decides what data is stored on its hdd or ssd
you cannot force specific data to be on the ssd
indeed the drive is called a wdblack 2 dual drive. after you clean it and run the software from wd its partitioned in 2 segments 1 120gb the ssd part and 1 931gb the hdd part.

strange thing is that steam does not work well with it, most times it works for some time with clearing dl cache and then the downloads will go trough and game start fine but most times its write error.

but find it strange that every other platform origin,ms store or dvd games install and work fine but steam has this isue.
