Pretty sure I didn't need to do that in my last intel system. I will check it out later as I afk right now.
I was after something a little more, well, less biased against intel. Guess I am in the wrong place.
i also installed recently on my sibling's cheap desktop PC (small office), intel pentium g5400 + asus mobo and the rst run fine.
---
if you have a fast internet, all important files are backed up somewhere else, just fresh install windows 10 b1903 and install all drivers one at a time and reboot as needed.
I have been using both the support DVD that came with mobo and the website installers. This build (1903) has changed quite a bit. E.g.- my bluray writer needed a reg edit and reinstall as the drive was assumed to be a CD-rom not BD-RW. I have even gone through the Intel site and the Asus site using the most recent installation programs.
Suffice to say I am still rebuilding libraries and sorting thru the whole "2 download libraries". There are ownership issues as they are mapped according to my old system. All drives from that system migrated but the library drives haven't been revamped.
However, a side note, I was having issues with my DAW recording software (not a steam product) which was caused by Acronis True Image software. The exec needed to be white listed from my "Ransome ware protection". Took me and the support team days of back and forth with a remote access support to narrow it down to that one function of another piece of software. It literally knocked minutes off Studio One's start up time. (I won't bore you with details but at first look he said "something definitely not right here")
Here's something ironic though - before yesterday I was unable to remove the drives via safe removal. Now, three of my four sata drives can be safely removed.
Being a new system I think there are .net framework and c++ redistributables that haven't been downloaded. I saw some being installed with video editing software installs earlier and I just had another one update thru win update. I believe right now, that it could be linked to some .net framework version missing. (Although that has not been an error reported.)
P.s. I did not mean to be rude to you earlier. I am sorry if i came across as rude. I appreciate you were only trying to help.
Edit: spelling mistakes.
Update to the latest bios as well as this can often be required for the latest drivers and software made for the board to work plus it generally addresses some issues that have been patched over time, such as various compatiblities, security holes, even sometimes general performance.
Yes, fast internet (adsl 108Mbps) and an install DVD now (bought second licence for new machine cos I need another licence).
This is a brand new install of windows. A week old at best and done from disc with latest windows build (see comment made to Bad
I also use Acronis for backing up as well as WD backup, both of which are done to an external drive. I do understand your start again approach, but I want to avoid the nuclear option. All important files are stored on auxiliary drives. My boot ssd just holds most important instrument, plugin and editing software.
But overall if you've been running Win10 since it was upgraded from Win7 or 8, it's time to just clean install Win10 64bit 1903, which should have been done long ago
Bios was updated (internet flash) to the latest bios on first set up. It's not that old a board (Z390-F) but as it supports 8th gen and 9th gen it may be older than I realise. (Apparently the board was released around Q3/4 of 2018)
However, the rst drivers are from the Intel website. At this point I think I have all support software from the web page. I could be wrong and it has been known to happen.
