No. It. Doesn't.
yes it does i can do a video on that too but just not worth it man, a few games will have a problem in 1440p but some old titles are being ran in 4k just fine

Old games are not modern titles. You literally said it runs 1440p in modern titles as well but continually deny it and say you said older titles.

And you had to run lowered settings in Doom with an approximate equally powerful GPU (RX 480) and didn't get above 50 FPS at 1440p without an FPS cap, which was obvious because you went 60+ in the game menus. What people want is 60+ FPS, not 30~50.

Should I buy the 1660ti then?

Buy the best GPU you can afford for the monitor you have. Alternatively, you could just buy a 1660 Ti and 1080p 144 Hz monitor if you only have 1080p 60Hz.

Ok I pretty much (atm) play 1080p @ 60FPS (capped) as im used to that, Ive got a 4k 32 inch BENQ monitor, no idea the Hz!

a GTX 1060 or 1660 Ti is not a 4K GPU, you would need a 2070 at the LEAST for 4K for decent settings. If running 1440p or 1080p then a 1660 Ti or 2060 would be fine.

4K is currently limited to 60hz.

You can check in your advanced display settings if you're ever unsure of what refresh rate a monitor is running at.

Get a 144hz 1080p, it's so much smoother than 60hz.

Sounds like you are running 1080p on a 4k monitor to me, what older titles support native 4k yet could run at 60fps on a 1060?
modern warfare 2, sims 4, and a few others we tried so far work just fine take note we did not run msi afterburner, just played them in 4k and they are playable, now Skyrim HD edition had problems in 4k on it but we lowered the resolution on that and it looks great in 1440p i said older titles run just fine depending on the title, we recently both grabbed Umbrella corps, the i7 and 1060 ran it just fine in 1440p but my athlon and 480 needed to go 1080p

Because the Athlon is barely adequate. The gap between the 480 and 1060 is a few percent. Next to nothing if you overclock the 480 to 580 level.

If ryzen 3600 is cheaper go with that. Cheaper means the cost of cpu+mobo+memory+cooler.

The 1060 is a low-end gpu. Current entry level gpus are faster. My opinion is that you would be throwing good money at something outdated.

Psu's are rated by tier. VS models are tier C or D which means avoid. Buy a tier A.

I have a GTX1080 hooked up to a 4K TV, and to play games at that res, I may have to turn down certain ingame video settings to net better frame rate. It's paired with a 4770K and having 4C/8T helps with newer games, besides, at 4K res, I'm definitely GPU bound for many games. IF OP hasn't gotten the 9600K (6C/6T would prolly be an issue for future games which may require higher core/thread counts), then I'd suggest a minimum of:

Ryzen 3 R5 3600 (better yet, R7 3700X) + B450 mobo + 2x 8GB DDR4 3200 RAM + RTX2060 Super/RX 5700 (and higher) + 550W PSU (Seasonic, Corsair, etc) + 250GB SSD (OS only)

My philosophy is, IF you wanna build a rig, do it good and proper. Save up for better parts because it's pointless to build a rig that can handle games at the res and ingame settings you want for the next year or so, I dunno about you guys, but when I build a rig, I'd want it to last a fair bit longer, like the next 3-5 years before I'd consider an upgrade.

My last uber build was an i7 3960X + Asus Rampage IV Extreme + dual R9 290X + Seasonic X-1250 rig (still have it, but upgraded last year to dual GB RX VEGA64 Gaming OC) and it was built about 7+ years ago. It lasted a good while, and still handles modern games quite easily. It's now my 2nd gaming rig next to my recently built Ryzen rig...

OP, you already have a 1060 3GB, unless you plan to keep the old amd FX pc as-is, why not move the old 1060 to a new pc build and use this for 1080p med/high until you ready to buy a gpu that is a good upgrade, such as GTX 1660 Ti or RTX 2060 Super. That is also with the assumption you'd be staying at 1080p and wanting to do 60+ fps. If you plan to get an even better Display such as 1440p/144hz, then be prepared to buy at least a 2070 Super or better for a gpu.

As for the rest of the specs, I'd suggest...

Ryzen 3600 or 3700X
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK
2x8GB DDR4 3000 such as GSkill FlareX or Corsair Vengeance LPX
EVGA SuperNova g2/g3 650W
250gb nvme ssd
1tb 2.5 inch ssd for games
If need more storage for loose files and such, can add a 3.5 inch 7200rpm hdd later on.
Use your own usb flash drive (8GB minimum) and make a Win10 64bit installer media. To boot from and install OS to your PC. Dont need a key, you can always buy that later if u needed to, which you aren't forced to.
