PSA: If you're using HDMI, Nvidia might be defaulting limited dynamic range on your monitor
Nvidia defaults limited dynamic range when you're connected via HDMI, resulting in poorer color accuracy. To fix this, go to Nvidia Control Panel>Video>Adjust video color settings>Click "With the NVIDIA settings">Advanced>Click the dropdown box and select full dynamic range.

I went through this too. Thought I had a crappy monitor for a while.
Did this but see no change maybe my tv/monitor is to old for this to have any effect. It's an old sony bravia about 8 to 9 years old.
AMD drivers often do the same.

How? I have both AMD and nVidia cards, always the same thing with nVidia, go to CP and adjust color to 'Full', with AMD I don't see this option. Where do you see it?

Pixel format in the display settings.

No it doesn't, I sometimes use DDU to uninstall my driver, and even then it always shows up as 'Full RGB', never 'Limited RGB'

Yes it does. It depends on the monitor.

RGB has nothing to do with HDR.

Then it's not AMD driver setting it, right? The monitor, as you claim, dictates the RGB setting. For nVidia, it's always, ALWAYS on 'Limited RGB' regardless of monitor used.

No. Both AMD and Nvidia drivers do the same. They will both select limited or full RGB depending on what the driver thinks is the proper setting for the screen.

Then we can agree to disagree, I've not encountered an occasion where I have 'Limited RGB' by default with AMD, not even once! But with nVidia, it's always, ALWAYS 'Limited' by default.

These are facts and not opinions, you can't disagree with a fact.

The fact is that the driver will select the settings it thinks is correct for your screen.

You can't seriously believe that your sample size of 1 can be presented as proof of how this software behaves..
10 bit color or bust

The point is, IF you plug your AMD GPU to a typical monitor, you're most likely to get 'Full RGB', whereas nVidia, it's ALWAYS 'Limited RGB' That's what I'm trying to say. Do what you want, take an RTX2080 Ti and plug it into the latest and greatest most spec'ed out monitor, you'll still have to change 'Limited' to 'Full' manually. You don't need to, with AMD GPU.....

AMD driver (GPU) don't behave this way, that's there message I was striving for. IF you have a very old monitor, perhaps, I'll give you that.
