Games running 60fps, but not looking 60fps?
I've looked around for a bit, and haven't found anything of use to help on the topic. So, I have come to the great steam forums, the location for all the gamers who could possibly help.
Here's my issue. I can play games with or without vsync, they can say 60fps, they can say 200fps, yet my games do not LOOK 60fps smooth.

(For reference, I'm running on a 60hz monitor, and my PC has an FX6300, 8GB of RAM and an RX 460 (and yes I know you may be amazed that I even MENTIONED a number above 60fps.)

I've tried so many things and this happens with every game I play. It just doesn't look smooth. Is the RX 460 that bad, or is there something I can do or test to help with this? Thanks in advance, I'll try and watch this for quick responses.

I concur with CJ; the 16GB of ram would help. I have a few older systems that were greatly improved when upgrading from 8GB to 16GB.

I've found, like most people, upgrading the RAM provides a great deal of overall system improvement. It isn't as dramatic as some mechanical disk to SSD upgrades, but it still often is among the better bangs for the buck if you are looking to spend money. Everything in the system benefits.

OP check your temps with HWMonitor.

Temps are fine and completely within normal ranges.
If I may, I had this problem too - all game recorders/stats would say "60" but the game would just LOOK or FEEL like it's not 60fps... I figured it out on my own and maybe this will help you: it was my monitor setting.

Some monitors, and possibly yours, have a Setting like "Game Mode" (my current Samsung does) - here is an example of another (an ASUS monitor) randomly chosen from a Search for the term:
https://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/articles/2010/05/05181754959l.JPG

My current monitor has a choice of "Faster" or "Fastest" and states that it will "make things look smoother". This no doubt has something to do with the display "driver" (hardware engine, not display system files of Windows), where it will be accelerated/tailored to high-framerate material (games, as opposed to movies) - and it really made games 'finally feel like 60fps'.

Playing a game on "Faster" looks a bit better, less 'blurry' and less 'like a movie', but the "Faster" setting really shines in games, where running and moving and spinning around (I move my mouse very fast when I play, people that watch me say it makes them dizzy) all 'felt smoother' and looked smoother, just from this one monitor adjustment.

Like you, all game recorders, Heads-Up Displays, On-Screen Displays and other utilities said "60fps" - but nothing really 'felt' like 60fps, until I made this change. Hopefully this can help you too (and others with this problem of 'feeling like 60fps'). GL with it! :crt:

Actually, those modes ('game mode', 'overdrive' or similar) are pixel response time settings, supplying more voltage to pixels results in them changing colours faster, which makes them blur less, resulting in a smoother clearer (read less blurry) experience.

It would help, but it's not the cause of his problem.

And, if you have OSDs which a slow refresh then it may not pick up microsutters on the FPS counter, because FPS counter is based on current frametimes; if it's 16.66ms then it's 60fps, if it's 6.9ms, then it's 144fps.
However, like I said, if the OSD/FPS counter doesn't update fast enough, then it may not catch a microstutter. This is why frametime graphs are good, you can use MSI Afterburner to see frametimes, if they're spikey, you're going to stutter/lag. If it's smooth, you're good, and your problem is something else.

Don't jump to conclusions; what is the CPU usage? (Preferably in the same picture as GPU usage if you can)

Thank you for your knowledgeable input - but I did not mean it was his initial/only problem, I was merely contributing that it helped my 'not looking like 60fps' similarity that I ran into.

[While it did solve my personal version of 'not feeling like 60fps' - and it may help others - I do not doubt it will be different for everyone]

Interesting, mine does the opposite, if I set it to 'fastest' and not 'normal' I get ghosting and other problems.
Here's a graph of me playing minecraft for 15-20 minutes and occasionally tabbing into discord.

Does MC seem to lag? Also try that.

Honestly, minecraft seems fine. I can easily stay at my 100fps cap with shaders.

Thank you a ton for this. Unfortunately, my monitor is ♥♥♥♥ and doesn't have any options like that. Might start looking into a new monitor although they're hella expensive.

Ok. Try running the most demanding game you have, then post temps again.
Also, go into the windows monitor settings and make sure its set to native 60hz. Also what's your monitor model number?
The MOST demanding game I have is rust which I cannot get to a stable 60fps and it is not installed. The temps if I recall though were around 60-80.
I can't find the model number of my monitor, but I'm 99% SURE that this is what I currently have.
