why cant I hear enemies in game behind me? surround sound?audio issue?

This is not game specific but I already tried posting this in the hunt showdown forum and no dice. So im posting it here hoping yall have better knowledge on audio.

Basically I cant hear in game when enemies or anything is behind, its almost like the back half of my headset doesnt have audio, I can just hear left right and in front of me. This is a very big disadvantage in games like hunt showdown.

My headphones are Beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80 ohm. I have these headphones tweaked for music (in a mixer on Win10) but I dont remember every changing settings to turn off specific sound settings. Can anyone help me?

It's a setting in Windows, yes.

enable a virtual surround mode like Windows Sonic for headphones[www.howtogeek.com] or check the in-game audio settings (sometimes there is a headphone-specific mode which may be a virtual surround driver built-in)...

I did this, and WOW its a very noticeable difference here in audio quality, this sounds way worse than what I had before. My headphones now sound like audio being echoed through a tin can, although I cant complain too much because it did work. So thank you !!

If you did both, disable one or the other - if more than one surround mode is active at a time then it can double-encode in a bad way for sound lol... if you're using on-board Realtek audio you can check the realtek sound manager and see if there is a virtual surround checkbox, that's another way. You can also install apps like Razer Surround, personally not a big fan of razer SW but if you already have it installed then it's another option available.

EDIT - and have to mention, if your environment supports an open-back set of headphones, virtual surround sounds much better (for me at least)

For those who still have this issue and find this topic.

It could be Realtek driver issue with your specific realtek chip. So you can try different driver versions even from different years and it most likely will work. Also your best course of actions is: purchase a sound card, don't use onboard card because it's always realtek and realtek is... well, realtek is bad sound card.

If you got something like a Plantronics RIG 500 HD you'd have a 7.1 channel system provided it was enabled in your soundcard (if your card does actual 7.1 that is) to output 7.1. It can do 5.1 channel configuration as well.
