MSI Afterburner OSD won't display in games
I'm not sure what's going on but the OSD won't display at all.

I have the afterburner app installed and RivaTuner Statistics Server too, but this app won't even launch.

What am I missing here? I just want to see some dang numbers for my hardware in game.

You say RivaTuner won't launch but I found out it just stays in the corner taskbar even if you try to load it. Click the icon from there and it will open then, not sure why it does that though. Make sure you have MSI Afterburner minamized instead of closed having it also in the task bar while you are trying to use the overlay.

You need to configure "Monitoring" tab in MSI AB first. If there's nothing to be shown in OSD - RTSS won't launch with MSI AB because it's not needed.

Setting an On/Off key for the OSD in Afterburner may be helpful
Make sure you are using the latest RivaTuner as well.

Thee osd stuff is never automatic you must enable it via RTSS amd then in msi AB settings, enable osd for things you wish to actually see.

If you're referring to the tab that has CPU usage, gpu temp/usage, core clock, memory clock, etc etc and you can check them off. I already did that. I have the "Show in On-Screen Display" checked for all these metrics.

If the RTSS icon is not there, just launch it from start menu. The enable it and set it up. But again u have to enable OSD on what you wish to see on screen via the msi AB settings.

I've been trying that. It doesn't work. I click on the app and i get a notification reading "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?" I select Yes and nothing happens...

There is absolutely no button that allows me to enable the OSD. I've looked through all the settings in MSI AB.

In MSI AB there are monitoring/sensors listing, there is a then an osd box at the bottom area, this tells AB whether or not to show that entry on your RTSS overlay. Each entry listed will have its own setting, you can even rename the entries if you wish. Then in RTSS enable the allowing of the On Screen Display.

UAC does not like some apps also. Change your UAC setting in Windows by lowering it by one tick. This avoids it showing an overlay when asking you to click OK. As the UAC overlay can cause problems sometimes.

It's important to note that not all games allow the Afterburner OSD to display. Destiny 2, being an example.

Some games you must change the render method in RTSS. Try Viewport and set detection to medium.

I've found out for games like Doom Eternal you need to go under RTSS's installation folder in ProfileTemplates folder, look up Global config file, then search under [RendererVulkan] and change PresentFromCompute = 0 to 1, save as Admin and then the RTSS overlay will work. Maybe that will help it work in Destiny 2, too. Not sure if it's only a thing for Vulkan games or what Destiny 2 runs as.

Odd, afterburner runs fine in Doom Eternal in a fresh install.

Any in particular. It does not work when I use DX9 games. All others are fine.
