MSI Afterburner OSD won't display in games
I'm not sure what's going on but the OSD won't display at all.

I have the afterburner app installed and RivaTuner Statistics Server too, but this app won't even launch.

What am I missing here? I just want to see some dang numbers for my hardware in game.

Basic stuff but sometimes it's overlooked: Do you have both Afterburner and RTSS set to start with Windows?

Do you have Controlled Folder Access enabled in Defender? You might have to whitelist both Afterburner and RTSS, otherwise you'll get silent blocks and that's just incredibly annoying. Use the "plus" button in CFA to allow a blocked app thru. Afterburner and RTSS are trusted apps, imo.

Dumb Q but uh
Did you select what sensors AB will show in game
And also set On/Off function keys?

My usual msi aferburner blurb:

Msi afterburner. You'll need to install the riva tuner thing so don't uncheck the box during installation.

You'll need to enable the onscreen display for each thing you want:

go to settings (click on the cog/circle with pokey lines sticking out of it)

go to monitoring tab

click on the check mark by gpu temperature and select from below show in on screen display (if you can't then click on the gpu temperature check mark one more time)

do this for cpu temperature (not 1, 2, 3 etc... just the unnumbered one), memory clock, core clock

press apply and press ok to exit.

then start the game

Also on the main screen at the top of the graph you can click on detach to see the graphs better. You can add and monitor stuff there also.

You set them up in MSI AB, however to actually turn it all on in-game and how is displays, all of that is done within RTSS

In RTSS it offers a few overlay methods, try a different one. Also good to set a toggle on/off hotkeys in MSI AB so it's not always displayed in times when you don't want it there. Also there is an option whether or not to show the RTSS in-game overlay within screenshots or not.

Might also be good to set these...
Enable Kernel Mode in MSI AB
Set MSI AB as well as RTSS exe file properties as Run As Admin for All Users.

Set MSI AB to Start with Windows

Do not set any Game Clients to Start with Windows. Instead, launch these via shortcut and always launch them via their right click > run as admin option.

If this is still an issue, I just reinstalled everything. From your issues it sounds like there was in aissue with riva when u first installed. Delete both and reinstall ig, that's what worked for me at least.

Updating/reinstalling Rivatuner tends to fix such things.

It's important to note that not all games allow the Afterburner OSD to display. Destiny 2, being an example.

Well there's an hour of my life I'm never getting back!

If you've got you're monitoring set the way you want it in afterburner then you can go to rtss and 'add' the .exe of the game you want to monitor from there. I've found that fiddling with the 'On-screen Display rendering mode' ie; Vector 2D, Vector 3D and Raster 3D gets me the desired results. You've also got the 'On Screen Display palette' to change the color and the 'On-Screen Display Zoom' slider to adjust the size of the output values. I do that anyway even if it works in game because I don't like the default color palette anyway and not all my games will work with it right off the hop.

Most OSD stuff won't work in Blizzard games because they block it. As various cheat softwares from xray vision to players and this is the kind of things they don't want cheaters to be able to use. So in some Online MP games do not be surprised if you attempts to use OSD software gets blocked or ignored by the game.

IF you still need help fixing this problem for CS2 then all you need to do is go to steam library right click on cs 2 then set launch options then enter -allow_third_party_software (remember to delete it after you're done with msi/riva) then go in to MSI afterburner and make a button on the "toggle always on display"
