[Resolved]Is a RTX 2080 enough for 1440p 144hz?

Hello, I am going to be considering upgrades to jump to 1440p, will a RTX 2080 to do 1440p 144hz on most games?

I would grab a 2080 Super, since it's slightly better in performance, but the same price.

But yeah, the 2080 should be fine for 1440p144hz at high/ultra settings.

Yeah, it should be fine. I just watched something that saw it drop to ~130 FPS with lots of action, but it was mostly in the ~155 area. So more than enough.

Get an adaptive sync monitor and treat the 144hz as a max, rather than a minimum.

Overwatch is not a demanding enough game. Even a 1080 or 2070 could run that well, maxed out at 1440p

I play games perfect on 1440p 60+fps in MOST games well over 140 fps with the RTX 2060 basic, and RTX 2060 Super so yes the 2080 is perfect

E sport games, easily, demanding new AAA games, not so much, but, neither will a 2080ti, it will get good fps maxed out, and you'll likely benefit from the higher refresh rate, just don't expect to be pinned to 144, luckily, the improvement from 60 to 100 is far larger than 100 to 144 :)

Sorry if this seems like a necro, will a 6700k at 4.4ghz bottleneck a 2080 super? I don't plan to upgrade my CPU but if it will kill my performance, i may have to.

And, that would depend on what you're doing / games youre playing.
Bottnecking isn't as simple as x CPU will bottleneck y GPU.

I guess I'll have to test, recently downloaded destiny 2. I am going to guesstimate based on the fact that some 4 and 5 series CPUs could work with Pascal CPUs that my CPU and a 2080 will work together on 80% of games. Thanks!

Simple answer is no.

There is always a bottleneck in any build.

Any CPU + Any GPU = Bottleneck

otherwise you'd have unlimited performance,

you might start seeing SOME bottleneck in 1440p on newer AAA titles though, not much so you're good

I can do most modern games with ultra (ultra is actually useless and often its better to do the very high settings, since its the exact same visually) on 1440p 144hz (with equal or high fps) with a 2070

The key is to have a balanced pc, not a powerful GPU alone

I suggest yo wait until better graphics cards are released if you want 144 hz at max settings 1440p because none of the current cards can do that. For now the best otpion is a 1440p 60 hz and a RTX 2070 SUPER. That will give you very good perfomance and graphics without being too expensive. I got mine 1440p monitor in 2016 the DELLP2416D 24'' 2560X1440 60 HZ IPS and i have GTX 970 since 2014 and still playing max settings 1440p 30+ fps. I also have ryzen 7 1700 since 2017 while until then i had core i5 2500k and none of the current carda are worth the ugprade from what i see.

My 2070 does that just fine-- with a 144/165 hz 1440p monitor
