Did my Alienware 17 R4 had CPU performance mode on when I first got it?
Hello people.

I think I found the problem why my games like Star wars battlefront II 2017 from EA and Call of duty modenr warfare remastered framerates were acting weirdly. I think I turned off my CPU performance mode in the BIOS.

Those games worked great on my laptop before this happened. But I was thinking about something here.

Wasn't CPU performance mode enabled when you first got your Alienware 17 R4 laptops. I mean when I first got my Alienware 17 R4 laptop with a Nvidia Gforce 1070 and plugging the AC adapter, it played my games smoothly and Star wars battlefront II from 2017 FPS worked smoothly, same for COD 4 MW remastered.

So my question here before this situation happened. Was CPU performance mode was enabled when you first got your Alienware 17 R4 laptop? Because I am assuming that it was on when I first got my laptop.

Please respond if this has happened before. Because I kinda switched the BIOS back to defult. That could have been the reason why those 2 games had a decrease in FPS.

Well I did that and it was disabled. When I first got my laptop my games I mentioned worked at a full 60 or above FPS.
Check the Dell Support site and have it detect your Alienware model of system and then check for a bios update. Updating this may help cpu performance as some Windows Updates to address some Intel CPU security flaws may have lowered the cpu performance to some degree.

CPUZ should be able to tell you what your current bios revision is currently. If newer bios exisits, as in a higher version, update it. Then after the update and reboot, do some more tests regarding overall system performance and see how it does now.

Setting Windows Power Options to High Performance might also help, especially with games.

I've owned two of Alienware's 17R5s. No both of them did not have the performance mode on and turning it on doesn't do anything.

Maybe the reason why my FPS is been decreasing is that since July I got a trojan.bitcoinminer virus on my laptop. And I had it from July 19th to the 21st. I got rid off it on July 21st at night and my computer was fine after that. Maybe the trojan.bitcoinminer might have been the case that my FPS with the CPU performance mode disabled could be the reason. Because the trojan bitcoin mining virus can use the CPU at it's full.
Scan with malwarebytes and hit man pro then to ensure all that junk is gone. Reboot after a full scan amd repeat the scans once more to help ensure all that junk has been removed fully.

DDU wipe the intel and Nvidia gpu drivers via the safe mode option, then reboot and install the latest for both gpus
