Prime95 stress test, PC lagging a bit. Normal?

Hello, I just did very quick stress test on my new system to check if temperatures are normal and if PC isn't crashing. I did prime95 test for about 30mins, cpu temps were totally normal, but it seems when I did that test my PC was lagging a bit. I mean it took much longer to open folders or run programs (such as afterburner, amd master, HWiNFO64 etc.) and also some programs (ex. afterburner or HWiNFO64) were not responding sometimes for 10 or so seconds, then it got back up to normal. Is this normal during stress test or my system isn't stable and I should be concerned?

Specs: Ryzen 7 3700X (no OC), rtx 2080, 32gb ram (3000mhz).

Lagging? You shouldn't be using the PC while it runs such tests.

Close every background task that is running and just run Prime95 and a monitoring app such as HWMonitor, set HWMonitor priority to real-time via Task Manager. Then start your stress test and watch your cpu temps. Allow the system to remain unused by you after starting such tests. Let it run for a good 30 mins or so, so you can get a good idea of how hot the cpu should ever get, based on your cooling setup.

Stress tests like this generally will have the cpu getting hotter then it would while doing things like gaming, so if it survives such tests then it should be fine as far as cpu temps go for anything else you use the pc for.

Yeah, I know it's using 100 percent of my CPU during the test (also around 97-98 percent of rams), but still I just wanned to be sure that this is normal, when even simplest task (such as opening folders) starts to lag a bit

Because the point is to stress the system by using all cpu and ram. Dont do anything else while it runs. If you wish to capture screenshots, use an app that captures screenshots via a hotkey, then launch that app before starting such tests.

HDD? if you do, it sounds like you either have a power saving drive or the drive is powering down (check power profile in control panel), so the drive has spun down because there was nothing accessing it, when you open a program the drive has to spin up, which can cause a delay in opening the file/program, then it's fine until the drive powers down again and has to spin back up.

100% is 100% any other actions even if they take a teeny tiny bit of power are now competing for 0% remaining resources.

So yes, that's normal.

If youre doing a STRESS test, why would you think the PC is usable while doing that? You're using 100% of its resources.....

Well, in generations past, I never lagged anything while using any software while Prime 95 was running. Now, I kept it to internet searching and youtube and of the such, but only now on 13th/14th gen am I seeing lag during a test.

Glad to see this is normal, I wonder why way back in Ivy Bridge is was not (for me).
