Is my CPU cooler on its way out?
Corsair H100i v2.

Main specs for my rig, if it matters:

Ryzen 7 2700x (no OC)
MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon Mobo
2x16 GB RAM
GTX 1080 Ti

I'm well aware that these coolers are notorious for their problems, and I think mine has finally started showing signs of failure.

CPU is 18-20C over ambient room temp at idle, and refuses to go any lower. I know ryzen CPUs run a bit hotter than others, but I would imagine a AIO liquid cooler could keep it down near ambient at idle. During gaming, CPU runs around 60-70C, and the coolant temp is roughly 40-43C. Encoding videos in Adobe Encoder, the CPU runs at around 85-90C and the cooler seems like it is doing nothing at all to at least bring the temps down. Pump is set at Extreme setting in iCUE and I'm running a custom fan curve for the fans.

The stock AMD Wraith Prism air cooler is more efficient than the Corsair liquid cooler. The cooler is 3 years old and has seen its fair share of use, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is failing. My gut tells me it is, but I'd like second thoughts from y'all here.

EDIT: Thanks for the help everyone. I appreciate it!

EDIT 2: For anyone wondering, I threw my AMD Wraith Prism cooler on and my idle temps are now around 29-32C and load temps are around 48-55C (depending on the game). That's a whopping 20C cooler than the Corsair was doing, so its safe to say my liquid cooler is done.

Yeah, if the stock cooler does a better job, it's time to throw it out.
I destroyed an old Deepcool 120mm AIO and tore it open, just out of curiosity.

Any abnormal sounds with the fans?

Nope. I've run the stock fans on it since day 1 and the only issue I've had with them is how loud they get, especially now that the coolant temps are high. Nothing abnormal though.

Have you been cleaning your radiator properly? Dust can really affect it.

Yes, I try to keep everything as dust free as possible. I have good airflow through the case, so combining that with me cleaning it every so often it's hard for dust to accumulate.

Yeah I'd just replace the H100i V2 with the stock cooler. It's enough for the 2700X and you don't actually need anything better as the 2700X can't get a meaningful overclock without a custom loop or LN2.
No sense in spending money on a new cooler when you don't need to.

I'll go ahead and do that then. I appreciate the help from you, and everyone else on this. Sad day, but not unexpected.
