MSI EZ Debug CPU light turns on after my PC Shutsdown?
I noticed that when I shutdown my PC after the shutdown process has finished the psu, heatsink and sometimes the case fans stay on, also the motherboard led and the debug light. I built the PC myself in Sept 1 and it has been running like this everyday since I built it. Once the PC starts the post process the EZ debug light goes off and the PC functions completely normal. I have been just turning off the switch on the back of the PSU to kill the power to the components ever since I have noticed it.

Things I have tried:
-Enabling the EuP setting in the BIOS
-Changing what the Sleep/shutdown buttons do in Windows settings
-Disabling fast boot in windows settings
-Making sure no devices are set to wake up the PC

Thanks in advance for any advice :steamhappy:

I have the exact same issue4 has anything helped yet???

I joined this thread years ago because my PC (with a MSI Z270 SLI motherboard) started having this issue randomly about a year after I built my PC in 2017. I'm still using the same mobo, the problem still exists, and it has not progressed any worse or affected my computer's performance in any obvious way.

From years of following this thread and watching as more and more people have had this same issue of the EZ debug light coming on during the PC power down phase (as the computer refuses to power down completely on its own) I have concluded that the most likely situation is that there is some MSI manufacturing defect that seems to happen in a variety of their mobo models. I've upgraded a few different things in my PC over the years, but not the cpu or mobo. Since the common denominator between all of our computer's is the MSI branded mobo, I'm inclined to believe it's a mobo specific manufacturing defect.

Years ago I reached out to MSI customer service and tech support, and they basically gave me a non answer, telling me that they're both unaware of the defect, and also unaware of how to solve the problem.

While I can't guarantee it, my gut tells me that if I were to upgrade my mobo, this problem would go away. I haven't upgraded the mobo yet because of the hassle of dealing with the Windows license, as well as the hassle of basically needing to re-build the computer. Like I said, the computer still functions just fine, but I have to flip the power switch on the back every time I turn the computer off or on.

I think the biggest takeaway from this multiple years'-long debacle is that I won't be purchasing an MSI branded mobo again :/

Well said, Moose Rancher. Even though it has no adverse effect on the PC besides the inconvenience of having to flip the PSU power switch when turning the system off / on, I still don't think I'd pick up another MSI mobo.

My mobo was still covered under warranty so i sent it back, turns out i was sent a mobo with a broken cpu latch arm. Meaning the cpu wouldnt securely lock in causing the problem.

Pie_Inspector : I got X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi for 5 months now. Its working fine. You may write to MSI and hopefully they will send you a BIOS update.

Try to disable usb standby power at PS4/ps5 in bios. Under settings/advanced/power management setup. It works for me. The CPU led light turns off.

I don't have the setting for USB standby power under Settings\Advanced\Power Management Setup in my BIOS firmware unfortunately.

In that case, try to disable (or enable) EuP2013 under Settings\Advanced\Power Management Setup in BIOS. Or On Board LED Control to OFF.
I really think it's got to do with the Power Management Setup in BIOS.
Hope this helps.

Sorry for commenting late but have you find any resolution to this issue? I had RMAed my CPU , Cooler (both replaced, RMAed PSU And MOBO both rejected replacements saying no issues found. Have you found way to fix this ?

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this throughout the years, and I'm sure it's come to mind, but what about putting a really small piece of electrical tape (the Black kind) on the LED in question?

While you seem to have a workaround, this would free you from having to do that. The drawback is you'd lose visibility of the light if you do need it, but since it sounds like your PC has been running well, the chances are likely low. And the effort in removing it to troubleshoot if that does occur is probably less than the effort you've put in/still are putting in to turn the PSU switch off and on all the time?

Just a thought.

Hi all, I occurred this mobo issue a few months ago, seeking a procedure to solve this problem, and I saw this thread.
In conclusion, if someone's situation is just like mine or this thread, please RMA your mobo to the dealer (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.), this may solve your problem permanently.
Don't waste your time resetting the OS, change the OS version between 10 and 11, disable the "Fast Boot", flash mobo's UEFI, or something else, it won't solve this issue, really.
(Of course, you can try these at first, before you uninstalled your mobo.)

My mobo is MSI PRO B660M-A WIFI DDR4, after I RMA it to the dealer, they directly replace it with a new one, so I don't think SW & FW is the root cause of this issue, the methods mentioned above I've tried so many times, cost me lots of time.

Just RMA the mobo if you are sure the other components are normal.
Hope my reply will be helpful to those who are facing this issue.
I know on the last 2 asus boards i had the lights on my mouse and keyboard would stay on after a shut down and turned out since their was power going to the usb even after shut down that is why the lights stayed on. I turned it off in the bios.

So maybe it's something like that just a setting in the bios needs turned off.

This is exactly right. I STILL have my busted mobo, and I've tried every single suggested fix since this thread's inception. I think it might be too late to RMA it, they declined when I tried to years ago too. But a new mobo is the only real solution in my opinion.
