"Turn off hard disk after (X) minutes"
Is it safe to set the amount of minutes to 0? Mine is currently set at 20 minutes by default. Will it shorten or hurt the life span of my hard drives?

I set mine to 120mins, frequently spinning up and down can shorten the life of your drive, it does have moving parts after all.

As far as I can remember I have set all my hard drives to 0 (stay on at all times) even on laptops, and 5-6 years on the hard drives are still running fine.

Yes, it is safe. It is not safe only to have this interval too short. But fell free to set it indefinetly long.
