I Overclocked a i7 8700?
So I just finished upgrading my computer to an i7 8700 (non-K), ASUS Prime-A Z370, Corsair Vengence 3000mhz. I know that defualtly the ram is set lower than 3000mhz (for me it was 2133mhz) I enabled XMP profile 1. Now im able to change the turbo frequency of my cpu, from 4.6 Ghz to 4.8 ghz (I can change it to what ever I want but I only have a cryoig h7) but does that also change the all core turbo clock. I wanted to test this in cinebench and on stock frequencies I got a 1388 on the cpu test, after changeing the core clock ratio to 47 (giving me a 4.8 ghz turbo supposedly), I got 1452. Have I overclocked an i7 8700?

Actually now I'm getting 1480

You just increased the default non boost speed.

But then why does my score increase, wouldn’t a stress test make it use it’s turbo boost meaning I made the turbo higher increasing performance

well look at the difference of raising boost speed an overclocking. Turbo boost disables cores, transfers the TDP to other cores to allow to clock them higher at the cost of loosing cores.

Overclockign a CPu will make it run always at a certain speed at all cores.

Your best option might be to see if you can enable MCE or multi core enhancement, if your mobo supports it, you can sudo overclock as it will force all cores to run at the boost clock speed, though I'll be honest, the minor saving made getting a non K chip will not be worth it in the long run, if it's not to late, I'd refund it and spend the few quid extra for the K, especially as you actually spent money on the better prime A over the crap prime P.

You should of just spent the extra money for an unlocked CPU.

Sadly it’s to late
