PSU Buzzing noise, RM750X
Recently (Boxing day) I built my new rig, everything brand new.. I was having a good time, then i opened a game for the first time, and started to hear a buzzing noise coming from the PSU.. it definitly sounds like the PSU, Im really annoyed and want to RMA it but im not sure? would it be better to get a different one?

My rig:
CPU : I7 7700K 4.2ghz
GPU : GTX 1060 3gb GIGABYTE G1 GAMING
RAM : 8GB CORSAIR VENGENCE 2400mHz
MOBO : ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO (I obviously had to update bios for my cpu to work on mobo)
CASE : CORSAIR 400D
PSU : RM750X

Im not willing to open up the psu to fix it myself.. Thanks for the help! :)

Corsair has a helpful forum. Ask there as it's "staffed" by Corsair employees.

No, never open a PSU yourself, you could potentially shock yourself if it has not been properly/fully discharged first. They specifically tell you and put a label on PSUs "Do not open, no serviceable parts inside" for this very reason. Also you might see "Risk of shock, fire, or death"

First I must say this much; buzzing (aka coil whine) can come from things such as Motherboard, GPU, or PSU. So please rule this out before you up and complain to the maker or return it.

If it is the PSU, return it directly back to the retailer. RMA through the hardware maker is for once your retailers return policy has expired.

What store/retailer was it?
And what Country do you reside in?

Have you got battery backup powersupply?APC or something like that?

Are you also saying that maybe my rig could cause my psu to buzz? or where the buzz is coming from?

I was referring to the fact that it can be produced from and actually coming from, Motherboard or GPU as well. So please check those. Easily done with the case opened and using the paper-roll-to-ear method.

I did kinda do that before, I had it open and put my ear right to it, and heard it, then scanned around my pc and couldnt hear it, im 99% its the psu, but will check beforing doing anything!

Then place the PSU outside the Case and try this all again, then if it is the PSU, it should be fairly noticeable of where its coming from. Could also be a noisy mechanical HDD as well. As many HDD models can be a bit noisy when spinning up on power on (coming out of sleep as well, since they have to re-spin up again) or during times of heavy read/write.

Ok i will try this later on and get back to you! Also my hdd is abit loud when loading and that, but it doesnt sound like that.. I will look into it

Well HDDs are what they are, some are a little noisy than others. It's just how it is.
It is a mechanical device after all.
If you are suspect of a drive, double check it using the branded diagnostics software; such as WD Diagnostics or SeaTools. If things like SMART Test and Extended Tests all check out fine, then the noise for that drive is just going to be normal.

Ok i will look into it, I appriciate the help! Also, is it damaging to leave it?
Bad 💀 Motha 31 DIC 2017 a las 6:58 a. m.
Not damaging no. But it's really not normal either.
Some will say just not worry about it, but for me personally, if something has coil-whine, since it is not normal, return it. If it doesn't occur during PC idle, and only during higher loads, that is usually the GPU, as the coil-whine (when it IS the GPU) tends to grow in frequency and/or audible loudness with high FPS #s

If it's the PSU, then it should be audible all the time, like as soon as the PSU external master switch is flipped on.

Ok, 1 more question, since i bought it from Amazon, is it possible for me to buy the same PSU and just swap the psu from the box, so old one is in the new psu box.. That means i dont have to sort all the parts back into the box for a refund. Will this work?
Bad 💀 Motha 31 DIC 2017 a las 7:03 a. m.
I would simply go through the various steps to rule out which piece of hardware is actually producing this coil-whine noise. If it is the PSU and was purchased though Amazon, go to your Amazon Account > Orders and click on options for Return/Exchange. Amazon will pay the return shipping for such options.

Ok thanks

I honestly can't answer that with 100% accuracy, you would have to ask Amazon Support regarding that.

Overall, the down-time should be fairly minimum for returns/exchanges.

If you have the extra funds, then perhaps file for a return.
Then go and purchase another PSU of your choice.

If you are able to, perhaps go ahead and purchase another PSU, then wait til that arrives before sending your old one back. If I remember correctly (please ask Amazon though first) once you do file for a return, Amazon gives you like a 15-day window on that for when it must be post-marked in order to be accepted. So even if say you file for a return on current PSU today, you could technically go purchase another PSU, have that arrive in the mail, then pack up the old PSU and ship it back. Just keep in mind when your purchased it, and what the return policy window (days for allowed returns) is.
