Need help with Asus gtx 1060 6gb overclcoking

So recently I got my first PC. It has an i7-7700 (without the K) a GTX 1060 6gb gpu and 8gb of DDR3 ram. Also i got a 4K monitor with it ( I have to mention that my dad put it together who have never doen this before and doesn't know much about gaming :). My question is: Should I overclock this card to run games like R6, Battlefront 2, H1Z1, at 4k res and 60fps or should I stay with 1440p, if I should overclock it how far should I go wich app should I use? I could really appreciate if someone could help me beacuse Im new to theese things. Btw I get around 57 fps on Battlefront 2 with 4k res 83% render scale on medium setting, and on R6 i get around between 45-50 fps on high quality overral, and i do have a little amount of overclock on it.

1060 won't handle 4K resolution without seriously lowering the graphics quality. Stick to 1440p or 1080p.

He could lower the monitor resolution to 1080p, but the downscaling will look a little weird...

Yeah, downscaling will look bad, but playing at a lower 16:9 resolution is an option if he's stuck with the 4k monitor.

Get MSI afterburner

It doesn't matter if your card is msi or not. Check settings and enable low level io interface to kernel mode, and unlock voltage control to third party.

Set a custom fan curve, click the fan tab in settings and set 3 points, one at the bottom 0% 33 degrees, one at 40% 40degrees, and one at 80% 60degrees. This will keep gpu much much cooler than leaving it on stock settings.

Turn off all the monitoring stuff, click the monitoring tab and uncheck everything.

Set core voltage to 100% and power limit to 100% (if you're looking for max oc you can set it to 112% but I don't recommend running it all the time at that %).

Increase your gpu and ram mhz (try for +100 gpu and +200 ram, go from there).

Make sure you enable your fan curve by clicking the user define button at lower right of fan speed % box.

Using 3dmark or catzilla or other gpu benchmarking software, test your overclock settings by running the full benchmark. If it freezes or artifacts your oc is too high, lower it and test again, if it passes the whole test your oc may be ok for gaming. Try playing a game. If it freezes or artifacts lower your oc a bit and test again.

Overclocking may only yield a 10-15% boost but it will help. Good luck.
