AMD Dual-Core Optimizer with Intel Processor

I have an Intel i7-6500U (2 cores) and came across the program "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer" on my system. Why was this installed? Do I need it? Can I safely delete it?

You probably installed it yourself. IDK how you got it on your system. Yes remove it. And run a scan with Malwarebytes aswell.

How is that still present? Even with a Motherboard + CPU upgrade from an old AMD system; that optimizer was meant only for AMD CPU + WinXP

Yes of course, everything from the old Motherboard should have been Uninstalled by you during such a hardware upgrade.

I'm using a laptop I received last Christmas, and the only thing I've upgraded is the RAM. I'll still remove it, I'm just curious as to how I got it.

Then yea, I can't imagaine how it ever got on there.
I'm betting the OEM brand for whatever reason put that on their as part of their pre-installed drivers/software. Kind of odd to see that these days. That was simply meant as a driver helper of sorts for AMD Dual/Quad Core CPUs running an OS like WinXP, since it wasn't good as far as AMD CPUs when it came to that, but had no issues handling Intel multi-core CPUs. Overall I think that had something to do with Chipset, Drivers and things MS never included in XP, which was why such AMD software was needed.

Probably some game installed it. I also had it on my system with Duke Nukem Forever.

I've gotten it from games in the past. It's probably not as alarming as it might seem.
