Steam Link with wifi extender
I just got a steam link for Christmas and my pc and router are very far from the bedroom tv i have the link plugged into, I was wondering If my steam link would work better with a wifi extender. My pc is plugged in via Ethernet and does not have built in wifi I'm worried that will cause and issue. Does anyone know if it will work or not?

It's going to be terrible over WiFi; run an Ethernet Cable.

I would need like a 500 ft ethernet I don't want to run one that long

Well you want the PC on Ethernet always anyways, why would this be an issue?
Any other device on your Home Network can potentially talk to your gaming pc, wired or wireless; as long as on the same network.

Overall, what is the debate? You already have the Steam Link, yes?
Then set it up and try it out.
Launch Steam Client on the Gaming PC and Login, then go to Settings, I would set a custom PIN for allowing Steam Link, so you don't have to keep inputting this when Steam Link needs permissions.

Then power on the Steam Link and first take the time to update its firmware/software through internet connection. This may take some time (like when buying a new XBO or PS4 for example) and update the Steam Link fully before actually streaming on it. With the Gaming PC on and connected through Steam Client, the Steam Link should be able to see + connect to it through home network, then stream whatever games are installed on the gaming PC. Whatever Controller you end up wanting to use on Steam Link, first connect that to Gaming PC and install it on there firstly.

I have tried the steam link but being so far away it lags very bad sometimes other times it runs just fine but when its close like lets say i test it on my second monitor its not laggy, I read someone saying he had issues using a wifi extender with his steam link because it was acting like his pc was on a different network than his wifi extender, I was just wanting to make sure I wouldnt have that issue like him because some people don't have that issue I just want a yes or no and dont want to spend money and risk it not working out for me

Really should avoid extenders, I would just connect directly to the Modem/Router, if it has to use WiFi, ok. But avoid extenders. It adds way too much to overall latency.

Does the modem/router support 5Ghz as well?
While this wont help with overall range, if within that to get good enough signal, it can handle much better speeds.

yea Im on the 5ghz when its running well its just like being at my desk just the random lag makes me worry it wont get better

Yea, thats about as good as it gets. If you want it to be better, use Ethernet Cable directly.
It is highly recommend for a reason.

I got a Steam Link as well. It is terrible over my wireless network, but if you have a good 802.11ac setup and aren't too far from the router, you may have better luck. Otherwise, you need to use ethernet, in which case it might be easier just dragging your PC to your living room and connecting it directly via HDMI.
