GPU Memory Clock high and in the red? Also CPU temps reaching red as well.
So I recently got a Gaming Laptop with the Intel I7-7700 and a GTX 1050. I ran a couple of games (WoW included) and my GPU MHz reached 1354 and the Memory clock maxed out and reached red at 3504 MHz. Also, at one point the 4th slot of my CPU reached 75`C and was red. This, of course, caused the fan to run at full speed. I was wondering if this will hurt my computer or if this is normal for a gaming laptop. Thanks!

All Seventh-Gen Intel CPUs get pretty hot under load, that's nothing at all to worry about. Their ideal working range is from 60 to 85C, so 75 is absolutely ideal. Your cooling system is clearly working properly, and the CPU is clearly running up to full power as intended. All good.

You only need to worry about extreme temps. Hitting 90* will slow the system down a little as the cooling system kicks in, and going above 125* can cause serious damage. Your system will automatically shut-down before it can get that hot.

*That's actually better than I normally see from gaming laptops. That really is a good score - what brand is this?

As for Memory Clock, 3504 is what your card is rated for so that's also fine. With Mem Clock, the higher that goes the better. More clock means more power.

I would only worry if that dropped below 3504 for long periods, as that would imply some overheating.

No your core and memory clocks should be maxed heat is what will cause them to lower. 75c as weird as this sounds is pretty good for a 7700 in a laptop most people i see have 85+. Id try to look into ways of cooling your laptop better on google tho and see if you can get that temp down some more

Edit by chance did you see what the other core temps on your cpu were? Or the package temp?

Yeah it's running just fine. 3504 is what your GPU is rated at.

Don't worry if your CPU or GPU clock goes above what they're rated for. That just happens sometimes.

Rated clock speeds are limiters that the manufacturer applies for the sake of safety, and they're normally pretty conservative. They're not actually the physical limit of the system, most CPUs and GPUs can go beyond that. This is called Overclocking - pushing past the factory limits in the search for extra power.

Your gpu is also gonna have gpu boost 3.0 which is software nvidia added that if your gpu has some head room it automatically overclocks. For instance my 1080's normal clock speed is 1658 but with boost it goes as high as 1932 but normally settles around 1837ish so if you see a higher number dont be alarmed its your gpu realizing it can put out more performance

It's a cool system. A bit finnicky on Pascal cards, though, my 1080 panics at 65 degrees and drops back to factory clock. Admitedly the Asus Direct-CUIII cooling system is rubbish, but it's still earlier than needed.

Yeah i dislike the hell out of how temp sensitive they are i manually oc my card and from 65-72 c i drop from 2088 to 2050 in the witcher 3 thats the difference in some areas dropping from 60fps down to low to mids 50's im buying 2 more fans for airflow and changing my thermal paste because of it
